Ok I ususally don't do this but I'm a little irate right now. My boss and I were planning a christmas party for our department. My Boss pays for it out of his pocket. There are about 18 people in our department. Every year we get together before christmas break to have a drink and relax. We deal with pretty stressful situations so it's nice to get togehter on a non professional level. Because of bugdet cuts and kick backs I decorated the office full on in christmas decor to keep everyones spirits up. Anyhoo, we set a date and decided to do secret santa. Only myself, my husband(he works with me or rather I with him) and one other person signed up. And then to top things off, at department meeting yesterday it was decided that we aren't going to have a party at all....it's free people all you gotta do is show the F...up, WTH!!! I've worked here for 10 years and have tried to bring everyone together, by celebrating birthdays, with cake and a gift out of my pocket....(I work in a school) and having beginning of the year gifts. I'm done trying to do stuff for everyone....next week is my turn for snack at our weekly meeting, cheese and crackers is all I'm bringing!

I'm sorry to hear that no one else is in the spirit. Who doesn't like a free party? I'd be the first in line for that!
Oh, boo! It sucks to be in a festive mood when the people around you are being Scrooges. LIke PP said, if you can't fit an extra gift into the budget, that's understandable... but turning down a free party? Is it really such a chore to spend one evening with your coworkers? I don't know why some people won't even try to be cheerful.
Don't let them get you down! Enjoy your decorations, have your three-person secret santa and get all the joy out of the holiday that you can. Maybe they'll realize what they're missing and be in a better mood next year!
BTW, I think cheese and crackers are a generous snack for these people. If it were me, I'd probably just bring plain crackers. If they're not happy with that, they can suck it up!
Can you tell I'm feeling a bit Scroogy too?
