Christmas cookies

I know Lesli started baking yesterday, and I think Christina had her annual family baking day this weekend...but has anyone else started?  What cookies are on your list this year?  Do you like to add new varieties or do you stick to tried and true favorites?  Do you bake just for your house, or do you bake enough with the intentions of giving some away?

I haven't started yet.  There was talk of doing a cookie exchange between my mom, my two sisters and I to kind of cut down on the amount we each have to do...but I haven't heard any more on that.  I usually spend a whole day baking with my mom and we split whatever we make, but I don't think she's into it this year :(  So I think I'm just going to do some at my house on my own.  I'll just do our favorites: snickerdoodles, cut-out cookies, choc. chip, and peanut butter and probably just a batch or two of each for us to enjoy.

Re: Christmas cookies

  • i am splitting the cookie baking with my mom this year.  she watches my 1 1/2 year old nephew during the day and she just can't get all the baking done she wants too.  i am also have a cookie baking night with an old professor who i am very close with and another lady i went to school with.

for the cookies that i am baking for my family, i stick to our tried and true favorites. between my mother and i we will be baking: pumpkin cookies, chocolate chip cookies, white chocolate chip chocolate cookies, ricotta cookies, mint squares, magic bars, snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, pizelles, and oatmeal cookies. with my professor we will try new recipes.  i plan on trying some recipes out of my martha stewart cookie cookbook.

  • Our cookie day is this Saturday.  I think we're sticking to favorites this year: chocolate chip, peanut butter blossoms, thumbprints, snickerdoodles, and cut-out sugar cookies.  I saw a recipe for some peppermint brownie bites that looked really good, too, so we may end up trying that as well.
  • I made ginger and choc chip cookies last week for work.  I think that is all I am going to make because we have no self control when it comes to cookies!
  • I made the usual choc. chip cookies, snickerdooles and peanut butter cup cookies.  I may make something else but we shall see if Keaton gives me the time...lol.  I was going to give cookies away as gifts but my DH literally eats like 15 cookies a day.  I can never keep them in the house long enough.
  • We did have our annual cookie baking day.  We had choc chip, gingerbread, white (cut outs but not sugar), m&m ones, snowballs (nuts, powdered sugar, etc), pinwheels (they are the BEST ... a cream cheese cookie), peanut butter, and a few others.  I usually bake more to eat and give away but not this year.  Smelling them baking & not being able to eat them was tough.  Damn egg, dairy, and wheat allergies!
