Oh NC I love you so...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZnM6FCElP8

This is a video of the deleted scenes from a locally owned "everything" store's commercial. I'm torn between peeing myself with laughter or crying over the reality of "We got scooters!"

*Must watch with volume, otherwise it's just not funny.

Re: Oh NC I love you so...

  • In related news, I could be living in NC by February. Having a completely unpredictable future is awesome. KB, how close are you to Jacksonville?
  • I'm in Raleigh, it's about 2.5 hours or so to Jacksonville. We usually drive through there on our way to the beach.

  • From what I hear, it leaves a bit to be desired. I was at least hoping you'd be closer, if we do in fact end up there. Dammit.
  • Um, well, it's truly a military town. It has grown up quite a bit and is much more like civilization than it used to be but it's no California for sure. In NC terms though, 2.5 hours isn't so bad. I-40 is almost a straight shot from Raleigh to Jacksonville and I've done it as a day trip before. I also have relatives in Beulaville which is very close to Jacksonville.

Have you ever been to eastern NC before?

  • KB, that is awesome.  It inspired me to share with you the favorite commercial of my childhood.  Enjoy!

Mike was there a couple of months ago and didn't exactly love it, I've never been there though. I'm sure it'll be a huge change from SoCal, but I grew up in east Texas so I figure I can handle living just about anywhere.

Bro-face was a Marine and was stationed at Camp Lejeune. He loved it, but he was also single and ready to mingle. Apparently there are a lot of strip clubs nearby.

I'm friends with everybody in this office. We're all best friends - I love everybody here. But sometimes your best friends start coming into work late, and start having dentist appointments that aren't dentist appointments. And that's when it is nice to let them know that you can beat them up.
  • When we go to visit the family (my grandfather grew up there and my great aunts both live there still) it feels kinda like a time warp to me. Things are just, well, different. Even though I only live 2+ hours away and Raleigh is by no means a hip metropolis, there is a distinct "otherness" about that area. Not to scare you or make you dread the possibility of living there it's just what my associations are.

Like I said, Jacksonville has grown up a lot. It wouldn't be my first choice of places to live, but it wouldn't be completely awful either. I could make do and I'm sure you'd be fine as well.

  • I can't watch that at the moment (though I'm dying to) but I thought I'd share this local gem.  It's totally legit.  I can't wait until April when they start really shoving it down our throats.

  • Oh Lark, that one's just plain awful! KB, I'm laughing because I know how much truth there is to the "We've got scooters!" sales pitch. It's exactly the same way in TX.
  • I know, I know!  That hair...those Chicago accents...perfection!
