Ran my first 5k!

I didn't have a "great" time but I finished, which was all I was aiming for.  Four friends and I ran it together, three of us had never ran in anything before (let's be honest, we had never RAN before August).  So the three of us decided we would stay together the whole time and finish together.  One of us (A), got a nosebleed from the cold and had to stop for a minute so she told me and W to keep running.  SO we did.  I think I could have finished faster, but W wanted to walk up the hills (we did walk pretty fast) and run the rest.  There were a LOT of hills.  Well, a lot of hills for 3.1 miles.

We finished in 37 minutes and 45 seconds.  We also started at the back, and according to W's husband, we didn't even cross the start/finish line to start the run until 45 seconds had clicked off the clock, so we probably did it in 37 minutes.  I'm happy with that.  I know we could have gone faster but for our first one ever (in 22 degree weather), I am really pleased.

A ended up finishing in 44 minutes.  She's happy she finished but disappointed that she didn't do it faster but you can't really run with a nosebleed.  She said she stopped for about 2 minutes, so we're saying she ran it in 42.

Next time I'll do it in 32.  :)

  • great job mandy! love the picture, all bundled up :)
  • Congrats...finishing is finishing, regardless of time.  Walking the hills is actually a good plan if you didn't train on the hills since you can go out too fast on them and tire yourself out.
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

Yup.  We are looking for more around here.  One of my friends found one on New Year's day but i'll be out of town.  There is a 10k in March we might do (I will definitely have to train for that one).
