...a bump, as in I'm pregnant!!! At already 11 weeks and 2 days, I'm still in disbelief.
This was very much a welcome surprise for me and DH because we were actually planning on trying in the next two years. Two years, because in my perfect world, my mom will be retiring from her job in Illinois and moving to NY to be closer to us. As her only child, it made no sense for her to live a two-hour plane ride away. She's been dreaming of being a very traditional grandmother of just staying home and watching the kiddos for us while we work, carefree. Who could ask for more carefree, and free childcare than that? Now, my mom and DH both brought up the idea that we try to purchase a two family home where my mom will live on one level (and pitch in financial and watch the baby). I swear she loves DH more than me, but it's perfect for us! lol.
DH and I actually found out I was pregnant when we were visiting my mom in the midwest for Thanksgiving. As I was taking, 2, 3, okay 4 tests to be sure (2 were inclusive), my mom was already telling relatives over the phone "I was in the bathroom taking the test!" (Luckily, not quite before we served the Turkey, lol! While my DH is on the edge of excitement and disbelief. Great disbelief because we had no time to TTC, plan, chart and do all that scientific stuff you're supposed to do. No, not us. Apparently, some carefree moments
resulted in the greatest suprise/gift we could ask for!
I had been off all BC for almost three years, and DH and I were just careful, or to note my ovulation times (not really a full proof method), but it worked for almost 3 years! It's just a reminder that we should never underestimate the power of our fertility. Maybe when we stop "trying" that's when it will really happen? Needless to say, everyone from MIL to teen SIL have already screamed with delight and rooting for their desired gender. While DH is so certain it's the son he's always wanted. Me, I would love either, long as it's healthy and strong. Although the thought of having a girl makes me squeal with daydreams of buying all girly stuff. But then, again, we need more good men, so I would love a son also.
So, while DH and I may have had plans to look for different jobs in 2010 (although his is so secure in the restaurant industry), focus on buying our first home, we are blessed to still both be employed and with good health insurance (and me with decent maternity leave), and family that is already buying us baby stuff. For someone like myself, whose managed to plan every major goal and next step in my life, this has been the most unexpected, anxiety-ridden, but wonderful surprise I could ask for! There will be more to come ladies!
