XP Relocating to SA

XP from SA Bump Board We made the decision that we will be moving. We do not have any dates yet as we are still awaiting to hear from my husband's new employer. Neither of us have been to San Antonio or Texas for that matter, so we have lots of questions. Hope you all can help with some and I don't seem like a pain. His work will be located on NE Loop 410, can you recommend any neighborhoods near there? We will be looking to rent a house or town home. We are working with a Realtor but sometimes they can be bias.  Can you recommend a daycare in the area, not sure if we will need it or not but a just in case.  How close is shopping and the like to different neighborhoods? We really like being right near everything.  I'm sure there will be more, just trying to get as much information as possible.  Thanks for any help you can provide, it is much appreciated

Re: XP Relocating to SA

  • The nicest area IMO close to NE Loop 410 is Alamo Heights. Other than that, I recommend the Stone Oak Area. I live over near 410 and Naco and it's VERY sketchy in some areas.

I can't speak for day care or anything, but North Park Mall and the Quarry are both great shopping spots within the Alamo Heights vicinity.

HTH a bit and feel free to post more questions!!

Ditto. My husband and I just bought a house in Stone Oak and we LOVE it. However, it is a higher cost of living area (but there are a lot of houses for rent) and traffic can be horrible during rush hour.

Another area we love, is the IH10/Huebner area. There's great shopping all within 10 minutes (Heubner Oaks/The Rim/La Cantera)

It's hard to give suggestions without price specifics though.

  • Depending on what part of 410 your H will work on, you might even look into the north 35 area....Olympia Hills, Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, Universal City area. It's a nice area and it may not be too far of a commute. Anything farther south on 35 is a little iffy. Another really cute area that's hidden is the Oak Farms neighborhood near Fort Sam Houston (off of Harry Wurzbach). It's tucked away and has some cute homes and apartments. I agree with pp that Stone Oak is nice, but the traffic will drive you bonkers.

  • I'm not sure of that area other than to ditto Alamo Heights as well.

  • We live near Alamo Heights and in the AHISD school district (where our son goes to school).  We love our house and our area which is right at 410 and Jones Maltsberger.
