XP: Help me pick our floor color.

I posted this on D&R but thought I would ask here since it's slow.

We are going to be replacing our carpet with laminate. I'm PIP of the colors of our current sofas, curtains and current wall color(the darker brown). These elements are staying in the room . I can't decide between the two floor colors. I prefer the darker wood but am scared that it is too much darkness. Which floor color would be best? We will be painting the living room and as of write now we're going with that light brown. Any other suggestions? We are not afraid of color and will also have to pick out a rug that I hope will bring color to the living room. Which floors and what color for the wall?

Re: XP: Help me pick our floor color.

  • As much as I love dark wood, I think with your current decor, it would be too dark. I would go with the lighter wood.
  • i'd go with the darker wood but I'd repaint for sure Embarrassed i love the darker wood but i think it would be too dark with the dark wood floors, dark walls, dark curtains and a dark couch.

the lighter paint color looks peachy... is it actually peachy??

  • I have dark wood floors, and love the look of them in general.

But, with your dark furniture, I would go with the lighter wood.  I think otherwise, your furniture would blend in too much.  Does that makes sense?

  • I'm a fan of the darker floors.  If you have one dark wall and the rest two shades lighter, I think it would be fine, plus you can use a rug to bring more light to the room.
  • The dark wall is a wall that runs from the front door through to the kitchen and 2nd living room in the back of the house. The lighter color is not peachy. It's just the closest I could find online in the five minutes I took to put the picture together. The color I am thinking about we used in DS nursury and is just a light tan. I'll see if I can post a pic from my MySpace account... if I can even remember my login.

This, particularly the part about the rug... but I don't think you need to go lighter on the wall color.  I think it'll look lighter in comparison to the darker floors.

Be bought our house with floors that look like the lighter color in  your picture but if we had gotten to choose we would have gone darker.
