Verizon Wireless Question

I've been with VW forever.  On Halloween, I went in and got a new phone (Samsung Rogue) and signed up for another 2 year contract.  I got a discount on that phone since I did the 2 year contract.  After having it for a few months, I'm really not in love with it and wanted the Blackberry Curve but didn't get it because DH thought having to pay an extra $30 a month for the service was stupid.  I think after me complaining enough about it, he has given up telling me no. Angel Question is... do you think I could go into VW and tell them I'm not liking the phone (I really don't like the touch screen/scrolling deal on this phone at all) and I just want the Blackberry... but I'm not paying the retail price of $300-$400 for it.  Any experience in a situation like this?  Would they let me start a 2 year contract over AGAIN in January with a BB?  I wanted to go to the store first and see what they could do for me before hunting for something on Craigslist.  TIA!

Re: Verizon Wireless Question

  • It would be worth a shot to go in and talk to them. They were nice when DH washed his phone and gave it to me for the 1 year contract price instead of full price. We had started a new 2 year contract the month before. If they won't give it to you for the 2 year price ask them at what point you could get a discount.
  • It's worth a try especially since you'll be upgrading your service plan, but generally there is a 30 day window in which you can switch out a new phone for a different one, and you have to be about 20 months into your 2 year contract before their policy allows a new discount.
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • I did this!!!  I had an LG phone (not a smartphone, just a phone) for my business, then realized several months in that I really needed the email accessibility of the Blackberry.  I was prepared to just pay full price, but when I explained the situation to the guy at the store, he let me get the Blackberry at the price I would've paid if I'd gotten it at contract renewal time.  It's definitely worth asking about when you go!  Good luck!

  • I don't have any experience with Verizon, but DH used to work at T-Mobile and he says that if you want a good deal or free phones or anything that is not advertised in the stores then you should probably call customer services.  He said he saw that customer service was always doing amazing deals for people that he just wasn't allowed to do working in the store.  So just a thought.
