may be moving to Boston area...need advice

Hello ladies...DH has been interviewing in the Boston area...Gloucester (farthest) and today somewhere in So. Boston...If we were to move there I would want to be no more than 30 min away from his work in the CT direction as that is where we live now... any help?

we have two small children that will be in school...so I'm looking for a place with a great reputation in education.

THANKS

  • Wow, there are a lot of Nesties moving to Boston!  And you all want info on areas I'm not familiar with, haha!

I'm sure there are at least a couple of ladies here who can help, just wanted to say an early "Welcome" and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I live in South Boston and visit friends in CT often...its easy to get on the Mass Pike from South Boston or anywhere south of the city and close to the water...Quincy, Weymouth, Hingham, Braintree.  It only takes about an hour to get to CT from here (maybe a little less).  Hingham and Quincy have great school systems (I am a teacher). Hingham is on the pricier side, Weymouth and quincy are much more affordable.  Hope this helps! :)
  • Wish I could help but I don't know much about the area you are thinking. I went to HS around the Douglas/Whitinsville/Uxbridge/Millbury area which are all nice towns with good schools but are more like 45 minutes from Boston. You'll want to be further north or your commute will be nuts. Good luck on the move! And wow, what adorable children you have Smile

  • I don't know about the south Boston area so much, but on the north shore there are lots of great places to live within 30 minutes of Gloucester. Beverly is gorgeous, but the schools aren't as good. I believe the Hamilton/Wenham regional school has a good reputation. Those two towns are pricier though, not sure what you are looking to spend on a house. They are really nice though if you can afford it!

  • West of Boston is Newton, which is a nice town with a good school system. It is easy to hop on the Pike out to 395 or 84 to get to CT.
