Re: Seriously what are schools coming to?

  • I'll be interested to find out their reason for sending him home. I'm guessing it's a public school?

  • Woah..... being it is Christmas time you think they would have gotten it.
  • Wow.  Just wow...

That seems to be a bit much to send a kid home for that.

  • Not just the fact that they sent him home, but what made my jaw drop was that they want him to have a psych eval!!!  WTF?!

    Seriously!!

If he needs a psych evaluation then so do over half the artist in. the. world.

I also agree with bella...Hello it's Chirstmas people!!!!

  • Well, they prob do, too! =)

    wow... that's just wrong!

  • Wow.....Yes, I think that the school was wrong but I would be concerned if my kid said he was Jesus too.  lol

What I think was even worse is that the dad is now trying to pull the race card......seriously people?  Seriously? I'm sorry but I think that the teacher would have had the same reaction if a white kid had said he was Jesus.

  • When asked what she wanted to be in kindergarten, one of my best friends replied "Baby Jesus."  When she was told he was a boy, she changed her answer to Mary.

Adults are probably reading way more into this than is the case, especially since the family just returned from a religious retreat.  On the other hand, I can see why they might be concerned that the child is showing himself as a dead person.

He said he was Jesus? I thought he drew Jesus as what represented Chrsitmas for him? Maybe I misread that...crap

Also, I think their reaction is silly, but think a picutre of baby Jesus would have been much more appropriate.

  • I have mixed feelings about this.

If it wasn't a specifcally Christian icon, I think Christians would be up in arms about such violent imagery.

That being said...draw something that reminds you of Christmas...he draws Jesus in an iconographic pose...hello!

The only problem here is that this is more Easter-related.  Somebody needs to teach this kid that Christmas Jesus is Baby Jesus. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuAUI_0knfk

  • Ok, just reread it and he says the picture is himself. It also said he's a special needs child. I'm thinking he misunderstood the retreat he was just on.

    I agree!

"As soon as he said that that was him on this cross (sleeping) ? red flag! She ran with it! Touchdown! I got 'em. I'm gonna have him evaluated, there's something wrong with this minority kid. We gotta get in his mind."

I think this statment from the dad is just ridiculous.

  • While I do agree that it is Christmas and the child did just go to a Christian display, IMO it's hard to say who's right or wrong here with out all the details.

They said the students has "special needs" but then the dad says he's very bright and scores 100's on his test.  So does special needs mean he is ES (emotional support)?  Because if he is then that could warrant the teacher's response.

Sorry, special education teacher in my coming out.
