Party Locations?

I haven't lived in austin in years now and i'm so out of the know! We're looking at throwing the IL's an anniversary dinner/party in january.

i'm thinking at a restaurant where we would just pay for food (not a room rental). I'm thinking ~30 attendees, maybe more. Any suggestions?? We're trying to keep costs down but still want something nicer than like Rudy's Smile It is their 40th anniversary after all!

Re: Party Locations?

  • oh we'd open to Brunch locations too... it might be better actually cause we'd save money on alcohol Smile well ideally we would. lol.
  • I'm pretty sure we learned the hard way for a Northie GTG one time that you can reserve the party room at Iron Cactus and just pay for food.  I want to say Carmelo's downtown is the same way.  I remember looking into them for our wedding.  But their policy may have changed since 2007.  Sorry I don't have more suggestions.
  • brunch makes me think of Moonshine- I've never been but everyone seems to rave about it.

Another suggestion is Matt's El Rancho- I've seen them setup a party/buffet type of thing in that back room before.

  • Threadgill's downtown set up an area for our post-wedding brunch. No fee, and everyone got separate checks (when desired). The food was great, too!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

  • A friend of mine had a bridal party/family brunch at NXNW, and they seated us in a room that was a little bit out of the way (but still open to the rest of the restaurant), and I was surprised that a place not "known" for brunch did a good job!

Also delicious for brunch, but possible $$ is Chez Zee.  They have a private party space, but I've seen them seat large parties in the back of the main restaurant--it's kindof like an enclosed patio, if I remember correctly.

Is a family-style restaurant fancy enough?  Salt Lick might be fun.  A friend of mine had her small office party at Bucca de Beppo, and said they had a good time.  I also see large parties at Matt's El Rancho often (they're more casual, but not family-style).

  • I was at a private party at NXNW last night. I'm pretty sure you don't pay for the room.
  • most restaurants downtown don't have a room rental fee but rather a food and bev minimum.

i don't really even know what's downtown anymore! lol.

  • what kind of food would you like? how much per person are you wanting to spend?
  • $12ish a person maybe? I'm really not sure yet cause I have no idea how much BIL/SIL are going to want to chip in...
  • Ooooohhhh...I've gone to events at Buca di Beppo at Mopac and 183 and they have little rooms that could probably accomodate your crowd and they can probably work with you on the menu to hit the $12 price point.
  • Z'tejas will take large parties.  I would call to make sure they are available for the day that you need to be there.
