Grocery budget

How much do you think you girls spend on groceries per month?

Re: Grocery budget

  • Probably somewhere around $300 not including the couple times we may go out to dinner or the couple times a week DH buys lunch.

  • hmmm....I think we spend way too much by not keeping good track of what we are spending.  I think I am going to budget this better.
  • We spend more on food and less on other things. We don't really ever eat out unless its a super special occasion. We try to buy as much local and organic food as possible which is obviously more expensive so we budget in other areas accordingly. I'd say we spend about 300.

  • I'm really not sure, but if I had to guess I'd say we average somewhere in the $200 - $300 range
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • average, probably $300-$350/month.  I spend about $70-$80 per trip.

I always check over the receipts so I know how much we're spending. I also plan our meals ahead (partly because we are so indecisive that it is impossible for us to pick something on the fly) so I make a list of what we need and try to stick just to that. Of course DH always add crackers or goldfish (etc).

It is also helpful to plan meals around what's on sale. And of course clipping coupons when you can.

  • Every time I do one of these polls I feel like we spend a rediculous amount of $$ - maybe $600/mo.  However this includes all of our paper and cleaning products, toiletries, and OTC meds (don't have time to go to multiple stores) We also bring our lunches every day including drinks and only eat out maybe 2-3 times per month.  We buy mostly fresh produce and organic meats so I know this adds up.
  • We spend way too much! haha It's usually about $500/month including groceries and toiletry stuff and any food that we eat outside the house (we usually bring lunches but sometimes eat out on the weekends). I feel like we spend a lot more because we don't have normal schedules also and sometimes have to eat out because we won't be home from school until really late at night.
  • I don't really know. Every time we do these polls I say 'I need to get on that' and then I never do.

That $300 doesn't include what we spend at Target for random household items (including paper and cleaning products), toiletries, cat food, etc. Sometimes we buy cleaner or paper products at the grocery store but try to get them at Target since they are usually cheaper.

  • Unless I'm having a party, I think around $300 or 400- but this often includes cleaning products, shampoo, paper towel, etc. DH doesn't tell me how much his grocery trips cost, hence the wide range.

DH made up a budget on Monday, and we're allowed $400/month for groceries, and I think cleaning products, etc fall into another category.?

  • $400-$450

  • We average anywhere from 50 to 80 dollars every week on groceries.. sooo.. 200-300 a month. And I eat out way more than I should.. I'm trying to work on that.. Embarrassed
  • We spend about $400-500 per month (inc other household items) but that does not include eating out which we also do way too much. I need to get better about buying things I dont end up using.

  • not enough?

We go MAYBE once every 3 weeks, and spend about $150ish each time... sometimes we go longer than that, sometimes we make small trips when we need stuff.

We really need to get on a better schedule...

  • We also spend somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 - $600 per month. We both love to cook, so most of our meals are from scratch. Since I am a pescetarian (moving towards vegetarianism/possibly veganism) and H is an omnivore, we buy cruelty-free as much as we possibly can, as well as organic.

    'Tis not cheap.

Plus we are in L-O-V-E with Trader Joe's since we didn't have it in Florida, which means we are in the obsessive early stages of "We must buy everything in sight." Hopefully it will ease up a little bit here soon.

  • We spend about $150 per week. ?That includes food, cleaning supplies, paper products, and most toiletries. ?I guess that's a lot compared to some of you ladies. ?We do eat a lot of fruits and vegetables which adds up. Hmmmm
