MrsPresley - Tummy Tub!!

I just heard about this today from someone in my mom's group... She says her baby LOVES the Tummy Tub! It's supposed to recreate the womb experience, so babies feel secure and enjoy their baths. Check it out!

Re: MrsPresley - Tummy Tub!!

  • Or you could buy a bucket for a fraction of the price and stick bubba in that ;)
  • You would need to make sure the plastic in the tub you buy is non toxic and that it's the right size for baby and clear plastic so you an see baby and has a round bottom/interior so that baby is comfortable........ I'm all for saving money, but a regular bucket is not the same and if you are dealing with a baby who hates baths, the whole point is to make it as comfortable as possible for them, imho. :-)

  • We got one and I cannot wait to use it!  I know it looks like a bucket, but it's actually engineered not to tip over, etc.
  • i've seen this before...my question is this...don't you still have to take the baby up and out of the water to use the wash cloth to clean the baby? then they're exposed to the cold again! or am I missing something? or do you lift baby up quickly, wash an arm, dunk them back in for a minute and then continue w/other body parts in the same manner?? looks to be difficult w/o a second person.... love the idea but not sure it's practical?
  • From the video instructions I've seen you save the babies "nooks and crannies" until the end of the bath....lift them up onto your forearm and scrub-a-dub then take them out and dry them off.  What appealed to me the most was that the baby is not supine and is almost always covered in warm water.

Here's the video from the manufacturer:

I also watched a bunch of "real world user" videos on YouTube before deciding this is the tub we wanted:

In a couple of months I'll be able to give you my own "real world" feedback.

  • I use the TummyTub with my son and we love it!  I did a lot of research before he was born on finding a better bath tub.  I had tried all different kinds of baby tubs- sling baths, foam bath inserts, standard plastic recliners, etc. with my other children.  I found them all to be junk!   I was really looking for something that would keep him submersed in warm water in a comfortable position.  This accomplished all that and more!

I also love the fact that the TummyTub takes up so little space and can be used from birth until around age 1.  My son just had his birthday and he stills has plenty of room in the TummyTub.  He's gone in the big tub a few times, but really prefers his own personal hot tub!

Please don't consider a regular bucket--super super unsafe!  I read about the safety of the TummyTub before purchasing and a lot of effort went into the design including a non-slip ring on bottom, a low center of gravity that prevents it from tipping, and ergonomic handles, etc.  Not to mention it's made of food grade plastic with no toxins whatsoever in the plastic.  I wouldn't want my baby chewing on a bucket used to mop floors!  The transparency of the TummyTub is also important and adds to the "return to the womb" environment.

I'm a mom of 4 and a minimalist, but in my opinion, this is a must-have baby item!  There are very few things that fit into that category for me.  If I had purchased a TummyTub for my oldest I would have saved so much money on cheap bath tubs that take up space!

As far as washing goes, I agree with the other poster.  Put a few drops of baby wash in the water and let the baby soak.  At the end of the bath, do a quick wash down and rinse and take the baby out.  Most of bath time, will be soaking and relaxing in the tub.  The washing part is very quick.

    Enjoy!

  • Ok, thought my tongue-in-cheek comment would have been caught but it wasn't lol.

Just to be clear, I wasn't seriously recommending anyone actually bathe their child in a regular bucket, it was my way of saying that I think it's a waste of money.

I've seen it in action in person and thought the same thing then too. Just my own honest opinion. However, other people love it and swear by it and that's fine too.
