I've got more issues than a magazine
If he's a godchild could you do something religiously based? What about getting a Veggie Tales DVD and you could get a new one each year as a "tradition?" I think even a 18 month old could appreciate them, we got 2 for my 7 month old so he can have them to watch all next year.
I also love the idea of starting him a library, you could get all the children's classic literature and they could get more complicated as he gets older!
I love the library idea. We started this with my nephew. But as he got older, he didn't care to read and his mother would just give the books away.
I discovered it when I didn't see any of the books we gave him. Fortunately, we hadn't spent a lot of money on any special or first editions.
Maybe my SIL is a rare and unique individual and most people would know to keep the books for their kids?
I really, really like the suggestion for a year's admission to a Children's Museum or a science education center.
