I need to buy some gifts for DH's family who we don't see very often. I don't want to do gift cards. That said I need a gift for a six year old boy and for and 16, 17, and 26 year old boys who I know nothing about. Please help
Re: once again gift ideas
As lame as it may sound, my mom always gets the boys in our family that are around 16 & 17 things for their cars, such as car cleaning kits and what-not. I think a gift card is actually a very good idea though for the 26 year old. My DH is 26 and he never knows what he wants so he just asks for people to give him gift cards. As for the 6 year old...most of the boys that age that I know are into Transformers and legos. Those are options I guess. HTH
I agree that car accessories would be good - assuming they have cars. Or a magazine subscription to Sports Illustrated, a subscription to Netflix, or some kind of apparel with their favorite sports team on it. If you're not sure what teams they like, ask their parents- or your DH's parents might know.
The 6 year old should be pretty easy. Cars, trucks, Transformers, anything of that sort. Or there is a bunch of really cool Crayola stuff out there that he might like.
I've got more issues than a magazine
We got some of the Crayola stuff for my 6 year old nephew and 9 year old niece last year and they LOVED them. This year we got my nephew a remote controlled airplane.
For the 16/17 year old I would get them something gadgety from a Brookstone-type store. That's where we shop for my 16 year old cousin. His 18 year old brother is REALLY into music and BMWs, so we tend to get him things related to that. Anything ipod related is probably a safe bet.
For the 26 year old I would go with a generic male gift like a watch, wallet, or sweater
For the 6yr old k'nex are good, my friends kids play with those for hours on end! nerf guns, legos, and/or book.
16 & 17 yr old if they have ipods get them itunes giftcards, I know you said no gc, but if you add them with things then its not so bad. Maybe some new headphones or an ipod case, anything music related or video games.
26yr old you could always get him a beer basket, or some seasonal beers, tools, dvds, my hubby is 26 and i still get the name legos and nerf guns:)
Can you get a few "wish list items" from them?
If it was me, my ideas would be:
6 year old boy: art supplies, toy he wants, coloring books, sticker books
16 and 17 year old boys: I know you said no giftcard...but what about an iTunes giftcard for their iPod?
26 year old: does he work? Maybe a nice tie for work?
For the 26 year old you could give something like a movie basket. Microwave popcorn, bottle of soda, and tickets to a movie theatre or gift card to Blockbuster. Or a coffe mug with a specialty coffee tucked inside and a gift card to Starbucks. Those are pretty generic.
I've also had a lot of success shopping at the Dollar Store for kids. You can buy gummy rats, candy bugs that squish out red goo and other gross out items there. We shopped exclusively at the dollar store for our nephew one year and got about $20 worth of that kind of stuff. He loved it so much that he still talks about it 3 years later.
