We bought our house pre-construction, and picked our own colours for paint. We picked this great colour but were shocked to move in and find that the paint looked jail-house gray. I was sure they used the wrong colour but nope, it just looks gray in here.
So two years later and I've finally got around to painting. I picked a colour called Driftwood from Rona. I tested the (large!) paint chip in every room in our house, in every light, over a period of several days. It looked great.
I painted the upstairs hallway today and I came upstairs to admire my work after it dried and it looks mauve-ish/pink. WTH? There is nothing mauve-y about the paint chip. I don't understand why my walls distort paint colour so badly.
Re: I'm cursed with paint colours...
How many coats did you do? You probably just need another coat.... I always need at least 2.
I had a problem with a CIL paint not matching the paint sample, luckily it just dried a little lighter, so it wasn't an issue.
I've never had this happen with Behr paint though.
