How much are you spending on Xmas gifts?

I'm just curious. DH and I did not set a budget...then again, we are both pretty conservative when it comes to spending. ?We still have a few more gifts to get so I'm guessing that we will have spent about $1,000 but no more than $1,200 by the time we're through shopping.?

Re: How much are you spending on Xmas gifts?

  • DH and I set a limit of $100 each, plus stocking stuffers

I spent about $60 on my in laws

    $60 on my parents

and about $50 on each of my two neices and I nephew (150 total)

Other than that I baked fancy breads and bought fancy coffees for work people and DH's boss ) cost maybe $50 total for coffee and baking supplies

so between $600 to $650 total as a family - we don't buy for our are brothers and sisters just their kids

  • DH and I don't have a budget for each other.  For everyone else:

    Immediate family- $60 a person (about $600)

    SIL's family - $20 a person ($80)

    Friends - $30 a couple

    Friends' children - $10 a child ($60)

  • Thanks for the response. I like the idea of giving one gift per couple instead of two individual gifts.

  • 200 total  DH and I dont do gifts.

    Brother/SIL: 50

    SIL/BIL: 50

SIL: 0 -(no gifts with her this year, since she lived with me)

    IL's: 50

    Rents: 50

This year we limited it to only couple gifts which included, my ILs, my parents my brother and his two sisters.  After that we cut the list.  It was getting too out of control.

  • MIL/FIL- $100

    SIL, 2 BILS- $150

DH- $50 (he will spend the same or less on me)

    DoggyBooster- $50

    My parents $100

    My sister *gulps* $300

  • We do $200 for each other + $50 for stocking stuffers.

    Parents: $100-150

    Siblings: $50

    Kids: $30

    Friends: $20

  • About $100 each

    $50 per parent

    $50 per sibling

    $50  for grandparents

    $30 for my cousins

$50 combined for two close friends

    About $750 total.

  • I spent $400 on DH. $60 on each of my parents, $30 on one sister, $300 on another (the latter is her birthday, Christmas, and college graduation). DH's family is his problem. I don't know (or care) what he spends on them. Then we also host Christmas Eve dinner, which somehow always costs us (me) about $600.

  • We do $20 a person.  We buy for nephews ($10/each), siblings, in-laws, parents.

We know $20 isn't much, but I LOVE shopping each year and seeing all the awesome deals I can get for that price.  It's such a rush (for me) when they open TONS of great gifts, on their list, that I found for under $20 total.  I even have all the ladies in the family nice, Vera Bradley stuff.  I got it all on sale early this year.  I Christmas shop all year round.  DH's brother-in-law and Dad are getting some sweet Columbia shell jackets, originally $50 that we got for $25 each.  (yes, went over the budget on them...ha)  So yes, $20 isn't much, but we make it work and would never spend more becuase of the success we have with it.  If you told people that was our budget, they wouldn't believe you becuase of the gifts we get for great deals.  I'm a firm believer in sales and getting great deals and NEVER paying full price - it's not needed!

Also, we do stocking stuffers and spend about $5 each on everybody's stuffers. (We do things like socks, Bath and Body Work goodies, candy, etc)

What DH and I spend on each other, depends.  Last year we spent about $100 on 4 sets of bed sheets at TJ Maxx and this year we're just going to a nice dinner because we're building a new house.

  • Too much. We didn't set a budget, but this is about how it worked out:

    Children: $500 each (2 kids)

    Parents: $75 each (4)

    Siblings: $30 each (5)

    Nephews: $30 each (2)

    Friends: $20 (5)

Babysitter & her family: $100 (they are very good to our kids)

    Aunt & Uncle: $20 each (2)

    Coworkers: $30 total

    Teacher gift from child: $20

School party favors/gifts from DD: $10 total

DH bought me a laptop that was $850.  He insisted that I not buy him anything, but I ended up buying him a round of golf for two at a new course he's been wanting to play and a few other things from the girls totaling about $325.

So, roughly our grand total is about $3,000.00

  • DH and I set a 500 dollar limit, including stocking stuffers.  HOwver I am 300 dollars over.  lol.  But I think my mom is going to buy a gift from me to give to him and same thing with my sister.  I prob spent 750 on him.  I spent about 250 on each of my parents, and like 80 on my sister.  We are getting a joint gift for his sister and her husband.  we are spening 100 on them, and then 60 total for their 2 kids.  I didnt get anything for my friends because we really dont exchange.  but i did print out a photo from our wedding and gave it to each of my bridesmaids.  (the photo of my BM and I ). I spent 90 total on his parents.
  • I am really in the minority here!

    My parents : $40/each

    Nephews: $25/each

My son: $2 (not the budget, but what we actually spent on him)

DH: No specific limit but I think it will come out to about $60 for both

    Childcare workers: $4.00 total

    Total: $221ish

  • Not sure if I want to figure this out.

    My parents - $60
    FIL - $30 + stocking stuffers
    MIL - $50
SFIL - $40 + $30 for his birthday (Christmas Day)
    BIL - $40
    SIL - $50 + stocking stuffers
    Nephew - $45 + stocking stuffers
    Niece - $45 + stocking stuffers
Nephew - $50 (half for gift exchange/half from DD as my sister watches DD while I work so they spend a lot of time together)
    BIL - $30
    Brother - $30
(for my family we do a $30 gift exchange)
    DD - $120
DH - $30 (stocking stuffers only - we're heading to the Dominican in February so that's our Christmas gift)
    Grandparents - $80 in total?
Other gift exchanges with friends, extended families - $130
Sister - $150 (includes a gift for her as DD's daycare provider)

So grand total of $1010.  And that doesn't include stocking stuffers which I tend to go a little overboard with.  Acckk.  This has got to change.
