Work Holiday questions...

Since I saw a post about giving bosses gifts...

1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?...

2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?

3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus?

Re: Work Holiday questions...

  • (since I hit a button & my reply crapped out on me...)

    1. yes, we do... it's after a 'meeting' so it's more like we're all there anyway... and it's at a restaurant at like 8am. Mimosas!

    2.  nope.  I used to do the choc covered apples for coworkers and scratch offs for installers, but this year... nope.  None to bosses. was told the gift giving runs down hill... boss gives to you, you give to those below you...

    3.  bonus? Not in my dictionary... =)

  • 1. No party, our boss does not do Christmas.

    2. No, but we have talked about getting the boss kinda something like a restraunt gift cards just for being a good boss. He's been stressed lately cause we've been kinda slow(we're a small company).

    3. We don't get Christmas bonuses, see #1.

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?... Kind of.  It's just lunch in the office (Chinese food) and then this year they had a raffle to win Target gift cards.  Everyone received a reusable shopping bag with our company's logo on it (whoop-de-do) and a gift card to a grocery store.  It's workers only since it happens during work hours and in the office.

My immediate department also goes out for a holiday lunch.  And, I'm part of the activities committee in my office, and we have a holiday lunch tomorrow.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers? No, I thought about doing something small (candy) once, but there are home-based employees and about 15 people in my immediate department and that would get expensive.  No one else really does anything either.  Our boss gives us small bags of candy and a card, but we've never given anything to her.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus? I wish.  I got one the past 3 years.  It'd be SO nice to get one this year, but I'm not holding my breath since they froze all monetary things earlier this year.

  •   1.Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?... We do a luncheon (just did it last Friday) for the employees only, and we do a white elephant gift exchange

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers? Boss = sometimes. . . she's a regional manager, so all of the other hotel general managers and I pitched in last year and got her something, but we don't usually. And I haven't gotten a raise in 2 years, so no, not this year! I usually buy a little something for the 3 managers who work for me, but I don't know if I will this year.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus? Bwahahhahahaha*gasp*hahhha! No.

  • Since I saw a post about giving bosses gifts...

    1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?... Yes, we actually have multiple holiday parties.  We have a huge fancy one that took place this past weekend in NOLA.  Sig. others are invited and we have cocktails, dinner, and an after party and they put us in a hotel for the night.  It's a mini-getaway and I love it.

We also do one locally and this year to save the company money it will be a pot-luck during the day on the 23rd.  We enjoy it and usually have a nice time.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers? We used to do a gift exchange but we all lost the appeal and have since kept our 25 dollars to ourselves.  The company gives us gifts and some of the employees give to others but I do not.  I make treats sometimes and bring them for everyone. Just depends.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus? No, we do bonuses in June but like i said the company gives us a gift.  Usually a gift card.

  • 1) Yes, workers only. It's a lame @$$ team breakfast of like Panera. But I have been so some swanky parties as a +1 when I lived in DC because all my friends' offices had them at hotels with sit down dinners and bands and stuff. This was also in 2006-7 when the economy was better.

    2) Last year I baked bread and infused olive oil and tied it up in a pretty ribbon. No actual gifts.

    3) HeII no. Probably a Jelly of the Month club. (JK ... Griswold Christmas Vacation reference.)

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?...
I wouldn't really call it a party but they usually buy lunch platters and things of that nature to eat during the work day (though we only work up until right after we do eat...noon..then we're let go for the day) on Christmas Eve (or whatever work day falls before Christmas), that day is super slow anyway because our customers are shut down until after the New Year for the most part.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?
The company gives out Christmas bonuses, but they get put in our last paycheck of the year (which is this week, biweekly) so we don't see most of it because it gets taken out in taxes.  My boss and I usually swap gifts, not as coworkers, but as friends, then the guys who work in the plant usually give something to my boss and I, and BL and I usually get something from the owners brothers wife (they are "older" folk).

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus?
    See above answer.

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?... Yep we go to a grill your own steak place and it's a delight!  You are allowed to bring your significant other.  We also do a ligh lunch another day with a gift exchange.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?...As a group we give gifts to the owners, but other than that no.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus?...We get a very minute bonus but hey I'm not complaining even if I wish we got more.

  • 1.  Yes.  Workers only.

    2.  Nope.

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?  The Dr. always takes us to dinner on our last work day, and it's always a surprise until the last minute when we clock out, he hands out the name of the place and mapquest directions and we go! It's usually something really good and sort-of fancy (workers only- there's 5 of us girls plus his wife- "boss lady").

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?  The 5 of us girls draw names for a Secret Santa ($20 max) and we exchange them during lunch at a place that we all agree to go to (this will be done tomorrow). We all chip in for a gift for the Dr. (usually $20 each). Every year at our X-mas dinner, he gives us all a gift- usually valued at $150-$200, and we all get the same thing. In the past we've gotten GPS's, I-PODS, Macy's giftcards, spa certificates, etc.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus? No bonuses, but sometimes part of his gift is money, like $100 and then something worth $50-$100.....those are the BEST :)

Before you go thinking my boss is awesome, just know that we have to put up with his "attitude" daily, plus we don't get paid for all the days off he takes around the holidays (except the holiday itself) but to me, it's well worth it! LOL

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?... We do a work lunch on Xmas eve and we get to go home early after that. Its just for the workers.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers? I give a gift to my boss. I usually do cookie plates for everyone, but this year I have zero holiday spirit. So no cookies for anyone

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus? Last year was the first year we didnt get a bonus. Im not expecting one this year either.

  • 1) Not anymore. They quit last year and haven't brought it back yet.

    2) Yes, I give a gift to my department which is my boss, our admin, and the b!tch that I manage that drives me BSC.

    3) Not really. We didn't do raises last year and I dont think we will this year. However, if raises are given, I expect to be one of the ones to get one.

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?...  We had ours today actually.  We "close" our office from 2-5pm on whatever day is our party day.  Everyone brings in food and we do a Secret Santa gift exchange.  And by "close" I mean we just don't do any work for 3 hours.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?  We pool our money and buy our boss a bottle of Jack Daniels every year.  I gave my Secret Santa person a $25 gift card to Red Lobster and I received a $30 Coach gift card from my Secret Santa.  The limit is $20-$30 and we have a sheet up at the front of the office where we write down gift options.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus?  Hahaha.  What's a bonus?  I'm a state employee and haven't even gotten a 3% raise in 2 years.

  • 1.  Does your work place have a holiday party? Is it workers only or couples or ?...

We have a department party this Saturday, but I have basketball tickets with my inlaws.  DH's party is Friday and we're going to it.

    2.  Do you give gifts to your boss? coworkers?

Sometimes I do something small, but I don't think so this year.

    3.  If none of the above... do you expect a bonus?

The hospital gave us a turkey at Thanksgiving and a $25 card to Publix for Christmas.  Does that count?
