Did you say you were doing a CNA program? Am I mixing up titles? Because my colleague/friend is starting school in the fall to be a PA, and they recommend she doing a CNA program/job to get medical experience. If so, do you have any words of wisdom/advice I can pass on to her?

Re: **Kellybeth**
I just finished my CNA program and will be taking the NC exam on the 31st. The nursing school I'm enrolled in requires you to have a CNA prior to being accepted into the clinical portion of the curriculum.
I don't know how different CNA in your state would be but as far as "medical experience" I didn't feel like I got that much to be honest. The only medical thing I learned was how to take someone's blood pressure and picked up a little more terminology. The course I took was totally geared towards working in long term care facilities but that seems to be across the board here in NC. As part of the course we spent a week working in a nursing home side by side with CNAs. That job is rough. Lots of feeding, bathing and butt wiping.
I think working in a hospital would be a better environment than a LTC facility for sure (unless she just really likes geriatric patients) and CNA is sort of like a stepping stone, albeit a very small one. If anything it could get her into positions that will help her make professional contacts that will help during and after school.
