Teachers...a gift question

What do you love to get as a gift from your students and what do you hate to get?

I'm stumped this year as to what to get for the girls' teachers, and well, time is really running out.

Re: Teachers...a gift question

  • I don't get gifts from my students (obvs financial issues) but if I did I'd love a gc to b&bw, book store, coffee place etc.
  • My sister and a bunch of friends are teachers, and they like edibles (cookie tray, bread, fruit, etc.) or gift cards.  Sis has been teaching for only about 4 years and already has enough teacher ornaments/mugs/notepads to built a new wing on the school!

  • The school where my MIL teaches does this really cool thing where they have the teachers pick like 3 or 4 places that they'd like to get GCs too, and they somehow give that info out to the parents. So my MIL always ends up with a slew of good GC at christmas time.. I think every school should do that. She also ends up with a few random ugly candles and xmas decorations and stuff.

  • So if I did a tin with oreo truffles and white trash mix and a small gift card to dunkin donuts or tim hortons....that would be good?
  • I always loved the homemade gifts with a gift card attached. I have too many mugs and small plates with teacher quotes already. After awhile in my Dec. nesletter I use to request if they felt thye wanted to give a gift then  a book donatation to the classroom or a B&N card was a nice idea.

Hope your teacher has no food allergies and likes that coffee place! I know she will love your gift! I would!

Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  That would be an awesome gift.  I used to ask my parents to buy a book for the classroom library instead of something for me (a girl can only have so many candles and bath stuff!).

  • I teach first grade....  and I agree that gift cards (Dunkin is my favorite) or holiday cookies are by far the best.  The best thing about first graders is they LOVE picking out my gifts, last year I got a bottle of Barbie perfume from one of my kiddo's along with a gift card for Tim Hortins and a note from her mom saying that there was a 20 minute arguement in Target over the Barbie perfume. Smile Hope that helps!

I think this is a great gift!

  • I don't get many teacher gifts but the best ones are GC's to dunkin donuts or a book store.  I also loved a bag one of the parents made for me to bring stuff home in.  I still use it from years ago.

Things I got that I didn't really care for is lotions - some of the scents I don't care for, knick knack type items - there's only so much room to put them.  As for homemade food, it depends on the student - sometimes I didn't feel comfortable eating what was made.

I too agree that this would be a great gift. My favorite gifts were homemade- cookies, white trash (YUM!), and pickles. I, like many teachers, also loved getting G.C.'s to a local bookstore (preferred to a chain, but I'd still use the Borders, B&N, etc.) or we have these things called "Simply Certificates" where you can use them at a long list of restaurants, spas, cleaners, golf courses, etc. I would recommend AGAINST bath stuff, candles, anything with an apple on it, note paper or coffee mugs- as I got enough of these to open my own gift shop.
