Nighttime Work Out Motivation

I really need to snap out of it! I cancelled my gym membership since I wasn't going (I don't like taking time away from DS at night and I have no motivation to leave the house after he goes to bed). I have the 30 Day Shred but I can only motivate myself a couple times a week to do it, which is pathetic, since its only 20 freaking minutes!

I just feel so "blahhhhhhhh" and I always have some excuse for feeling down.

Can someone tell me to get off my lazy butt and workout? Any motivation tips?

Re: Nighttime Work Out Motivation

  • I so know what you mean about having no motivation.  I don't even have kids but find it hard to get off my butt.  What about a yoga or pilates video?  I know I'm using core muscles for those exercises but because the movement is slow, it's doesn't feel like a "workout" per se but more of a relaxing stretch-thing to do before bed.

Is night time the only time you have to work out?  Then I guess taking a walk might not be an option...

  • I find that even when I am feeling unmotivated, if I can commit to just putting my workout gear (sports bra, workout clothes, sneakers) that then I just go for it.  It's weird.  So, when I am on an exercise kick, I make sure that I just change into my workout gear rather than my lounge clothes (like after work or after I get up on the mornings).  Then I HAVE to work out.  And those 20-30-40 minutes really do fly by and I always feel better afterwards.
  • Do you work during the day? If so, is there a gym close to your office? I work out during lunch and it's become part of my daily routine. I found that helpful because most of the time I just want to go straight home after work. I think I'll stick to this routine when we eventually have a kid. I am sure I wouldnt want to go anywhere else but home and see my baby when we have a LO.

I also see my PT after work 2-3x a week. I personally think it helps when you set a schedule and you know that Mon/Wed/Thurs (or whatever schedules you want) are your gym days. When my friends invite me for dinner after work, I will try my best to not let it interrupt with my workout schedule and reschedule dinner at some other day. Sometimes I tell my friends i will be late for dinner and just come after my workout. During the times that I can't go to the gym (mostly on weekends) i TRY to work out at home but honestly, it's hard to get motivation! I just wanna lay in bed all day lol. I try to do it early morning though even before DH gets up. I do change to my work out clothes even if im just working out at home. I do Jillian's 45 min video (forgot what it's called but it's about increasing your metabolism or something).

    GL!!
