I bought just three Christmas gifts this year. We do a gift exchange in my family, and I drew my aunt's name; and I got something for DH's sister and her husband. That's it.
DH and I agreed on no gifts for eachtother this year, and while I baked cookies for my friends at work, I don't consider those true "gifts." Honestly, I don't know who else I'd buy gifts for--I'm not allowed to buy for mom/dad/anyone else in my family under the rules of the exchange, and my group of friends doesn't do gifts. I kind of feel like I'm missing out on the fun, but then again, I don't have the stress of it all, either.
So, who do you all buy for? Is it just family? Friends? Coworkers? (and does anybody really buy gifts for mail carriers, paperboys, teachers, hair stylists, and all that? I'd always thought that sounded strange, and I've never done it)
Re: How many people do you buy Christmas gifts for?
We did eight this year:
DH & myself
DD
both sets of parents
DH's brother's family
My sister's family
My brother's family
both grandmothers
We don't always do the grandmothers, because they keep saying they have everything. This year we're sending flowers. DH swears earlier in the year we said we wouldn't buy for each other, but I don't remember it & already bought his presents. My family has drawn names in the past, and even skipped presents, but we decided we wanted to do something this year so we're doing "small" family presents.
I try to cut down every year, but our siblings keep having babies!
This year we are buying for my 3 nieces, his niece, both our parents and his brothers.
I'm so jealous of you ladies! We're at 23 and we only buy gifts for people we know are going to give us gifts. DH and I aren't exchanging gifts since it's already so expensive to shop for everyone else.
DD
My parents
DH's parents
My sister
My grandfather
DH's grandmother
9 nieces and nephews--DH and I were the only ones who wanted to draw names instead of buying for all of them.
2 of my friends
3 of DD's little friends
We'll probably get gifts from a couple of DH's aunts but we don't buy them anything. They must not mind too much since they continue to give us gifts, anyway.
We buy for 13 PLUS each other
My parents, sister and BIL, Brother SIL and Niece, my grandma, one of my cousins (we drew names), my 2 small cousins who we babysit often and my best friends little boy plus something small for her too.
We also shop for 13 people plus each other.
My parents, DH's dad & stepmom, DH's mom, my brother, DH's brother and SIL, 3 neices and nephews, my two best friends and my best friend's daughter. Sometimes we buy gifts for other friends if we see something that absolutely reminds us of them.
We bought for 14 plus each other.
For my family we bought for kids (my nieces and nephew) and my parents which = 8.
DH's family we bought for immediate family = 4 plus BIL's baby momma, and MIL's boyfriend/fiance.
We kept our spending limit to $20 per person.
We buy for 16 people, all family. If you include us we buy for 19 people.
Parents
My sister
My brother's family (2 adults, 3 kids)
Sister-in-law's family (2 adults, 1 kid)
Sister-in-law's family (3 adults)
I would really like to stop buying for the siblings and just buy for our parents and nieces and nephews but I just haven't broached the subject yet. I need to put on my big girl panties and have the talk with the siblings.
We buy for 11 plus each other...
Parents
In-laws
Brother-in-law family (2 adults, 2 kids)
Sister and her daughter
My brother
It gets more and more expensive every year so i'm hoping by next christmas we'll have a baby of our own and can convince everyone just to buy for the kids
Too many...
DH
My parents
His parents
My 2 siblings
His 1 sibling
2 extended family secret santas
4 friends
4 of his out of town relatives
So...18?! And the cheapest gifts are like $25pp (close friends) on upward for family...sheesh...
Latest Blog Update: Peanut Butter Cookie with Salted Peanut Caramel
Wow. I never really thought about it.
I buy for my immediate family--4 people, then 1 BIL, Tim's parents (3), and my stepdaughter, and then our dogs
so I guess we bought for 9 people, but it felt like a lot more than that!
And Tim and I only spent about $50 on each other, mostly stuff for stockings.
Oh, and I forgot that I bought for 1 of my cousins and one of my nephews both for gifts for my stepdaughter to give them in the family name-drawings.
