Need inexpensive restaurant recs in W. Village

DH and i are going to see The Joffrey Ballet School's Nutcracker tonight at NYU's Skirball Center on W. 3rd and W. Broadway, just below Washington Square Park.

Any recs for inexpensive places in the area? TIA!

Re: Need inexpensive restaurant recs in W. Village

  • Mmmm, you are speaking my language!  DH and I have been scouring this neighborhood for good cheap restaurants since we moved here.  What are you in the mood for? :)

For "nicer" places, I love Cafe Condesa, which is pretty reasonable by village bistro standards.  Also Jean Claude, which is really good french and fairly cheap.  Malatesta has really good pasta/italian and all of the entrees are under $20.

Camaje Bistro is a little more casual but a totally cute place for dinner.

Tartine - I haven't tried it yet but am dying to. They're BYO, which really helps keep the cost down if you're a wine drinker!

Pizza is always a good budget option.  I like Keste and No. 28.

If you really want to go cheap and tasty, my favorite Thai restaurant in the city (so far, at least) is Morakote Siam.  They are also BYO!  Super casual, but cute place.

Next to Morakote is Grey Dog, which is a good place to have a drink (cheap beer and wine in the evenings!) while waiting for a table at Morekote.  Grey Dog also has fantastic food, but it's a little more casual due to the order-at-the-counter setup.

  • Ooh, these all sound fantastic!!

Have you heard of/been to Monte's Trattoria? I found it on Citysearch and it has glowing reviews and the prices seem reasonable.

  • Ha - that place is on my block!  I walk by it all.the.time but have never been.  I remember noticing that they'd draw a nice crowd outdoors when the weather was nicer though, and Yelp approves....I'm adding it to my list to try! :)

  • P.S., have fun tonight!  I am super jealous that your DH will go to Nutcracker with you.  I'm not sure if I could drag mine kicking and screaming. Sad
