Do charities accept toiletries?

What about opened items?  I have a bunch of lotion, shampoo, etc, that were used once or twice.  I feel bad dumping it all.  Do you think a shelter would take it?  I don't want to insult people by assuming they'd use open stuff but I want to offer it if they can use it.

Re: Do charities accept toiletries?

  • I don't know what their policy is about opened items, but the Henry Hosea house in Newport distributes toiletries to people who come in for meals.  You could give them a call...859-261-5857.

  • You could also try St. Vincent in Dayton.  I know they especially like the hotel size at the shelter, but they might take anything.
  • Its always worth a try. I know Shared Harvest up north takes them, but again, I would call and go from there.
