Would you use salted butter?

Today is cookie baking day!  I just realized though that I kept buying real butter since it has been cheap and never picked up any margarine!!  So I found this simple recipe for cutout cookies that uses butter.  I always use unsalted butter for baking, but since this doesn't call for salt, should I use salted butter????  It doesn't specify.

2 cups butter, softened 1 cup white sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 4 cups all-purpose flour

Re: Would you use salted butter?

  • The foodnetwork chefs always recommend using unsalted, so I always use unsalted. If you're worried you could always add a pinch of salt. (Since I believe margarine has salt in it.)

  • I always use salted butter.  I only use unsalted when it calls for it.
  • I always use unsalted too. I would avoid salted if there's baking powder in the recipes, which I think can taste "salty" if you don't measure precisely.

  • I also always use salted butter unless otherwise specified but I never add any other salt even when it is called for. Hahaha you have so many different answers. My baking always comes out perfect and I have never had a salty tasty cookie made by me. ;o)
