Regifting? Anyone do it? Get caught doing it? Caught someone else doing it?

I totally regifted a white elephant last week. At one exchange I got some chocolate caramel popcorn so I put that into my second exchange and added a video rental. Best decision I made.

I don't however, regift things from family or friends.

I have done it. My mom gave us a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer one year, we already had one. So we gave it to someone in DH's family the following year who didn't have one.

And my DH's brother has a wierd way of giving us exactly what we gave him the year before. One year we gave him a DVD player (he didn't have one). The following year he gave us a DVD player, may have been the same one. Of course he knew we already had one since we had watched a DVD at our house the previous Christmas. Then we gave him an iPod, the next year he gave us an iPod. They bought a new bed right before Christmas one year(diff size from what they had) so we bought them new sheets. The next year... they gave us sheets. Last year we gave them Netflix for Christmas. I sure hope they didn't get us Netflix this year, we don't have time for movies!

I have a stash of candles and other misc. gifts that I keep and use as hostess gifts. Some of them have been bought by me, but some of them are regifted...

One of my friends I used to work with did it. I don't know if this counts (I am hoping it doesn't) my best friend needs wine glasses and I told her I have a million that I never use and have never even come out of the box. I told her I will give her some the next time I see her. So in addition to her present I am giving her tonight and I am going to put a few in with it. She totally knows they are from my house. I am hoping this doesn't count as regiftting b/c I told her the truth they are from my house. By the way these aren't for Tiffgoddess

K and I are wondering if we re-gifted something this year. In our family we always send gifts to the dogs too. Well at some point we received some rawhide bones. We don't give these to our dogs. So this year we sent them to other dogs in the family. We have no clue if we sent them to the people who gave them to us, but we figure it's dog bones so no one will care :-p

I'm with MelissaSue- I've done it, and to my knowledge have not gotten caught. I usually do it with hostess type gifts or bottles of wine when I need something in a pinch.

Actually come to think of it, I have a wedding album we got in May that I don't think I'll need.... Haha.

I've only regifted once or twice and haven't gotten caught. But it was for small things that I know the person getting it, would appreciate it more than I would.

I have a GTG with some old friends each year, and we have to bring a white elephant gift we received for Christmas as our "gift" for our Yankee Swap. Does this count since we all KNOW it's a re-gift? Other than that- I don't re-gift, but think I've been re-gifted to.
