that host a Christmas GTG?
Part of the reason I loathe going to these things is because Drew never thinks to get anything for the hostess and I come from a long line of bringing at least something along.
Any ideas for something relatively cheap that I could bring along with me so that I don't feel like such a douchebag?
MIL snubs everything I offer her so she is just a PIMA. This week we have
Thursday: gift exchange with MIL, FIL, BIL, me and D but we dont have anything to bring. Like I said, Drew never does it and doesn't think its necessary. I find it to be so unbearably uncomfortable.
Friday: Christmas at Aunt D's. Everyone is there (20 some odd people) and we don't bring anything here either.
Saturday: Other side's Christmas exchange at MILs again.
I am at a loss....HALP!
Re: Does anyone NOT buy gifts for ILs or relatives...
I do one of several things...
stock up on Yankee Candles (or any other type for that matter) and use them as gifts...
food-breads, pumpkin roll, small cookie tray... I have a few pumpkin rolls in the freezer-just in case!
ornaments-always cute! Pier One or even craft stores have some on sale even now. (or stock up next week... for next year)
I used to get those Mrs. Prindables(?) apples that are coated... for coworkers-they're awesome!, but you could do that for relatives, too...
GL!
when all else fails... go get them a damned pointsettia at the local market...
I would go with ornaments or Yankee Candle(s)
Yankee Candle are usually always a hit. I know sometimes they have a deal during Christmas time on the votives (the small little ones) where you can pick like 10 or 12 (mix 'em up) for a cheap amount, then grab a cheap votive holder.
Do you have a price range in mind? We we go to a party we usually take a bottle of wine for the host/hostess. I know some stores have really cute pre-packed Christmas baskets. If all else fails, and I know it might sound tacky but oh well flame me, I buy scratch off lottery tickets and put them in a nice card.
Anything edible she snubs me for. She cooks with this fake sugar Holly Cleg cookbook and talks about how fattening and awful real food is for people.
Poinsettia is a fabulous idea. One of the cousins does Christmas Lillies (?) so I hope that isn't too similar but eff it...its something.
I think the poinsettia or some other holiday plant like an amaryllis or little tree would be nice. It's a little harder to snug that . . . although I'm sure your mother in law could find a way.
KARREY!!! Make it glittery, too! or get the colored ones! (ok, I mean that in a 'not nice' way... I'm cynical today... )
I think I will take the hypercolor blue one on the right please. Thanks!
I think they are as well. I would certainly buy "3 or more" to get the discounted price.
I'm a traditionalist... love the red and white ones and pink...
It makes me laugh cause I KNOW my boss would absolutely HATE these (and she just up and left early! ugh)... as she hates glitter fruit (for centerpieces).
The creativity in these is amazing, though. and Kudos for whoever has patience to glitter them.
