so yesterday was DH's grandma's wake and today was the funeral. that meant we saw a lot of family we hadn't seen since the wedding and OMG the first thing out of their mouths was something about my hair (it was super long at the wedding and is very short now)
and the 2nd thing was "when are you gonna have a baby?"
I answered that we want to get a house first and then have kids, and that we were looking to have a house by this time next year...
none of the relatives pressed the issue at all. But one of MIL's neighbors took the cake with her comment to me last night. She came over to me and said that we should have babies soon because it would be really therapeutic for MIL since her mom just died.
REALLY! WTF!? What was she thinking to say something like that. People should have babies because they want to have them, not to be therapy to someone else! PLUS, although my MIL was a school nurse and did a fine job raising her son, I cannot imagine her dealing with babies or kids. She is so high strung, high maintenance, controlling etc... I highly doubt my having a kid would change that, and it sure as heck isn't going to serve as a replacement for her own mom....
Anyway, I just wanted to share that.
Re: more prego talk
Oh boy, this sounds like Kevin's family. They are all "babies everywhere!" whenever they see us (except his one aunt who was knocked up and married at 16, she's very "when youre ready" zen). And my family, they won't touch the subject with a 10 foot pole.?
Although I must say the whole "therapeutic" thing seems a bit out of line. Yes, it would be nice for your family to have something positive to focus on (I feel like this is a bit of motivation for me too), but its not your job to procreate just because someone died and MIL needs a distraction. Oh well...?
