What are you making for Christmas dinner?

Luckily I have a lot of help with entrees this year from various family members after making something like 6 different entrees all by myself last year.  Different people are bringing a turkey, ham, and a roast.

However, I just realized I have almost no side dishes planned and for some reason am not feeling particularly inspired by anything.  So, what are you guys doing, or do you have some suggestions/recipes to offer?  Inspire me!

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Re: What are you making for Christmas dinner?

  • My parents are hosting - making roast beef, spiral ham, mashed potatoes, rice, squash, corn, and who knows what else :-P
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • We're going out for dinner! But usually for Christmas my family makes some variation of our Thanksgiving meal with the usual sweet potato casserole, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, etc, etc..
  • Here is my menu:

    Appetizers:

    Stuffed mushrooms and spinach dip

    Meal:

Turducken, stuffing, mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus, and home made cranberry sauce...dinner rolls as well of course

    Dessert:

    Pumpkin pie and oreo truffles

  • We visit our family in CT so I don't have to cook (thank goodness). My grandmother is from Sweden and we do a traditional smorgasbord.  Swedish food is probably an acquired taste (other than the meatballs)...I don't think you'd like to serve things like fish pudding and pickled herring. Stick out tongue
  • We're going to my brothers. They're having tenderloin and I don't know what else.

I am bringing cookies because that's what I was told to bring when I asked.

  • We always have pretty much the same thing. My dad and I cook dinner for the whole family, and mom does all the plating.

apps: baked brie with cardamom apples, gruyere puff pastries, cheese and crackers, shrimp dip

dinner: mashed potatoes, green beans, yorkshire pudding, roast beef, jello, cherry bread, banana bread, salad.

    dessert: ice cream and cookies

Where are you going? I'm thinking of going out since it's just the two of us, but I have to pick a place!

  • Nothing luckily!  We are going to the IL's on Xmas eve and my parents for Xmas day.
  • My parents are hosting Christmas Eve and DH's parents are hosting Christmas Day, so I have little responsibility other than eating!

Mom's making ham and a pineapple crisp that is to die for! I'm making some of the sides, almond spiced green beans and mashed sweet potatoes, and stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. MIL is making steak and mashed potatos and I'm making cheesecake bars for dessert mmm. I can't wait to eat!

  • I'm making pork loin with an herb rub and some sauteed pearl onions on the side (in white wine and balsamic vinegar- yummy!). For sides I'm doing roasted asparagus, cornbread stuffing with sage and sundried tomatoes (my mom got me a Martha Stewart Christmas cookbook and let me open it early :)), roasted butternut squash with brown butter, "ugly potatoes", spinach salad with roasted shallot vinaigrette and homemade rolls. For dessert I'm going to attempt to make a Buche de Noel also from my new Martha Stewart cookbook :) This is the link for the ugly potatoes (sorry I can't make it clicky):

We call them ugly potatoes because mine look far worse than those. haha They taste amazing though!

  • We're hosting our parents and siblings this year.  We'll be having beef tenderloin, twice baked potatoes, salads, a baked vegetable medley, green beans, and rolls.  Then we'll be having apple crisp and ice box cake for dessert.

We're having the holidays at every house but ours.

    I'm ok with this.

We aren't sure, we'll probably end up at Legal Seafood since everywhere else we've looked into is going to be super expensive.
