Resume question

I helped in the organization and monitoring of a large annual project as an intern.

Which would you include on your resume:

a) Organized and monitored the progress of a...

or

b) Assisted in the organization and monitoring of a... ?

I feel like (a) takes too much credit, even though I'm pretty sure that's the wrong way of thinking. I did organize and I did monitor, I just didn't do those two things alone.  Does writing it this way come across as deceiving or am I over analyzing?

I feel like (b) is the most accurate, but doesn't take enough ownership... and ownership is key.

Re: Resume question

  • I liked the way B sounded...but I am not an expect in any means on how to write a good resume.  I always have my friend help me.  Her husband is a recruiter.
  • I like A.  If they wonder, they can ask you in the interview and you can elaborate that it was a team efffort.  That's not lying if you disclose when they ask you.

  • If A takes too much ownership and B takes too little ownership... is there a C?

I would personally be carfeful of taking too much credit during an internship position. You wouldn't want to needlessly raise any eyebrows.

C.) Played a vital role in a large annual... ?

  • ditto Gerrie, unless that was your specific title and those were your job duties I wouldn't always take full ownership

That's what I was struggling with.  The project was a very large project and I went on to provide a brief, one-sentence description, so I was hoping it would be obvious that it clearly wasn't a one-person job.  But I want to put appropriate emphasis on it since 95% of my job was to organize, monitor, and complete parts of this project...

    bah. resumes suck!

  • BTW... are you job searching or just updating?
  • As a "C" option could you write "Assisted and monitored xxx project with team xxx" or something like that? I would argue that you should begin each point with a strong verb, like "assisted" or "monitored" rather than something weaker like "helped with" or even "played a vital role"...they're more vague. At least that's my English teacher opinion. Big Smile

This.  And its always handy to have them know you are a "team player" without lamely saying in the resume "Team Player"
