Do you wash your hair everyday?

I have read many times (thanks, Cosmo) that it's better to wash your hair every other day or less!

I have very fine hair and it gets so greasy that if I skip a day it looks pretty gross.  Sometimes I go a day on the weekend but not too often.

Re: Do you wash your hair everyday?

  • Whenever I can I only wash it every other day.  On day two I usually put it up or use a scarf as a headband.
  • I have really thick wavy hair that tends to get dry/frizzy so I wash it every other day. It's also really long so if I take the time to straighten it, I try to stretch it to 3 days.

  • Heck no. I usually go three days..

This sounds kind of gross, but if you start going longer between washing, your hair kind of adjusts. I used to HAVE to wash it every other day, by the end of day two it was slimy slimy slimy.. but now i can go three days, and it doesn't even look bad.

This post is making me realize I really need to wash my hair tonight.. LOL.

  • I've heard that too but my hair is fine and oily too so I can't skip a day.  I have to wash it every day.

  • I usually do every/other day.  I wish I could do everyday...  I looove the feel of freshly washed hair, but my hair gets very dry if I do it everyday.
  • LOL-Please don't think I'm a dirtbag...I wash my hair usually twice a week, usually Sunday night and Wednesday night.  I have thick, wavy hair that has be straightened and it looks so much better after sleeping on it.  Usually the second day it looks best.  It doesn't get oily or greasy and I end up doing a lot less damage without blowdrying and straightening it every night.  I still end up doing a touch up straightening everymorning.  And I save lots of money on shampoo and conditioner!

  • I think that advice really depends on your hair type. I have hair that sounds similar to yours. There's no way I could go a day without washing it (well, if I had to go out in public, or to work!).

To give it a break when I can, I let it airdry on weekends.

  • no, usually every other or even every 3 days. Unless I end up going to the gym (which is rare these days!)

I love this dry shampoo product by TIGI, I think it's called RockStar or something. It absorbs oil and makes my hair smell fresh.

  • Heck no!  But, I have extremely thick hair.  I wash it about every 3 days, and if I've straightened it, I've been known to take it to 4 or 5 days.  If I am going to wash it, I shower at night and then let it dry overnight, it gets less frizzy that way.  If I wash in the morning it goes into a bun for the day, and if I left it in that bun, it would still be wet/damp by the next night.  It's crazy thick!

Me too!  I look nasty if I don't wash it every day.

  • I try to wash it every day but I do skip especially when I work back to back shifts.  I wear my hair in a ponytail everyday so it doesn't really matter.

  • Add me to the thin-hair-that-looks-oily-every-day group - I can get away with not washing it on the weekend if we don't go out, or if I take a night shower I will let it air dry and not wash it again the next day.
    PersonalMilestone
  • I'm an every other day girl
  • I also have very oily hair and I have to wash it everyday.  If I don't it literally looks like a grease slick!  It is gross... my hair changed though, when I was younger, like a teenager, I could go every other day, my hair was much dryer and more frizzy then.  Once I turned 21-22 it totally changed and became very oily.

  • I can't wash it every day. I'm allergic to shampoo (and liquid soap, and dishwashing liquid, etc.) so if I wash it more than 3-4 times a week I get terrible eczema on my scalp. In the summer, when I HAVE to wash it more often, I use a special shampoo from my derm. but it costs about $50/bottle (with insurance) so I save it for the summer only.
  • My hair is like yours, so if I go longer than a day, it can look pretty nasty. Besides, I hate the way my hair feels when I'm dirty, so it would drive me crazy to go to work without washing it.
