Hosting Christmas Eve Dinner.... Menu?

I am hosting Christmas eve dinner for myself, DH, rents and my uncle so it will be just 5 of us. Since we are on the smaller side I thought that I would prepare more of a coursed style meal.

I am thinking:

Crab Soup

Simple Green Salad with Balsamic Mustard dressing

Butternut Squash Lasagna, served with Asparagus spears

And Cranberry Bread Pudding for dessert.

Would you add anything else to this list? I will most likely have a simple appetizer (bruschetta) for when people arrive.

We are having Steak and Shrimp for Christmas dinner I believe and I will bring an Egg Nog Cheesecake for dessert. I am trying to spread out out palates.

Re: Hosting Christmas Eve Dinner.... Menu?

  • The only thing I'd add are some rolls or some kind of bread. Like for Christmas I'm making these honey yeast rolls...they are really good! I've made them a few times before!

Also...do you have a recipe for your bread pudding? I made this on thanksgiving and it was SOOOO good!  It is perfect for Christmas.

other then that I think your menu sounds great!

This is the bread pudding recipe from Emeril. It looks good and received positive reviews. I was thinking of a simple crusty bread for the main course but nothing that I would make. I know that I can only be on my feet for so long and much of this I can make ahead or spread out throughout the day with breaks.

Oh that recipe looks great. A friend of mine made Emeril's blueberry bread pudding which looks similar to that recipe and said it was amazing.

And some crusty bread with the main course sounds great! Sounds like a delicious menu! :)

  • Here is Giada's Recipe I haven't tried it yet but the reviews were all really positive. I sort of wish that I wasn't putting something new on the table but I just don't have anything that my parents haven't tried already.

  • Sounds good- can I come over?

Only suggestion is as above- possibly some dinner rolls or crescent rolls.
