Office Christmas Gifts

Hey ladies,

Co-workers are starting to pass our their office Christmas gifts, and I wanted to run an idea by you all.  Instead of getting something small for individual co-workers, I was considering baking some cookies and bringing them in.  I feel it'd be cheaper and possibly a little easier... but what do you think? Is that sub-par?

(To give you an idea, my one co-worker gave out scent diffuser, my boss gave out calendars and scented candles, another co-worker did ornaments....)

Re: Office Christmas Gifts

  • I dont see anything wrong with that. My mom does that every year and her co workers love it.

  • I love that idea - I wish I knew who exactly to buy for. I used to give out jars of peanuts, but I didn't feel like it this year. You think anyone would mind if I gave out left over bottles of water? Oh well, I tried.

I always do above and beyond for my admin - but I think for my bosses (I have 2) - I'm giving one a starbucks giftcard and the other a bottle of wine. Then again, I don't know if they'll even give me anything. I mean, the one didn't even give me a wedding gift.

  • When I was working in a med school department, one of the doctors would bring in a jar of honey from his own hives for everyone in the department.  It's still difficult for me to wrap my mind around people raising their own bees.

Still, it was a neat gift.

  • I think it's a fine idea.

I usually do something like that to avoid the sometimes awkwardness of office git giving. That way, you're doing something nice for your co-workers, but you won't put them in an uncomfortable position if they didn't get you anything.

  • Cookies are alwasy great.  Last year I made pumpkin butter for our team.  Other gifts were make up sets, candy, sample size lotions, pashminas, gingerbread men, and nothing.  This year I'm not doing anything unless I end up doing a New Years' gift because time and $ just isn't allowing it right now.  Today one girl brought in bagels and OJ for an office gift... that's it so far this year.  I'm really thankful our group seems to be comfortable giving what we all can do and not that we feel like we all need to be equal.
