Is there any way to prevent cheese from crumbling?
When you freeze it.
In a Under 1000 fit, I bought a ton of blocks of cheese when they were on sale. I pulled one block out to use and defrosted it. When I tried to grate it last night, crumble city. DH is whiny and hates when this happens. Is it just inevitable?
Re: Is there any way to prevent cheese from crumbling?
this might be your "why are my meatballs flat?" post, and negates your previous "i am not stupid" post.
did you defrost from freezer to fridge, or did you just pull it out of the freezer and stick it on the counter? did you use a rasp-type grater or just a regular scraping type cheese grater? and if your husband has a problem with the way you cut the cheese (HEE), why can't he do it himself?
get a new grater. rasps have little blades that cut little pieces off, rather than just scraping across the surface and shredding that way.
