My MIL wrote another blog post about how crazy the Christmas season is and how it?s the woman?s duty to make sure everything is perfect for her family. She wrote about she?ll be thinking of all the other ladies who are doing the same thing as she cleans the kitchen from top to bottom and bakes tons of cookies. And then she say, ?The Mom makes the Christmas celebration happen. My Mom did it for our family, I do it for us, and someday SIL and Cassie will do it for their families.?
AHHHHH. No. I will have a nice low-key Christmas and the work that goes into it will be as evenly distributed as possible between me and my husband.
BTW, have you met your son? He?s Mr. Christmas. He listens to Christmas music everyday when he comes home from work and intricately sets up his Christmas village every year. Most the storage in tiny apartment is taken up by his Christmas stuff. If anyone?s going to be put more effort into Christmas, it?s him.
J e-mailed me about it and said, ?Just continue to be your inexplicable self and drink lots of beer.? He?s a keeper.
I know she?s just posting this because it?s what SHE enjoys to do. If she wasn?t running around and making things special, Christmas wouldn?t be as much fun for her. But it drives me crazy because I hate how at family gatherings, all the men sit around and do jackshit while the woman do all the cooking and cleaning. It makes me itchy.
AHH. It'll be fine. It just makes me nervous about the large family gatherings there will be this weekend. We just don't fit in.
Re: MIL - I love her but . . .
I feel ya darlin'. I have 3 to get through all with an overabundance of women that think they make the world go 'round. Drives me batty.
May I suggest some hydrocortizone cream or a softer sweater for your itchiness today
I can't get over the fact that your MIL blogs. Mine just calls everything on the internet a blog, but I don't think she knows what a blog really is.
Drink lots of beer my dear. 'Tis the season!
This!
J is totally a keeper!
My SMIL is like that, too. . . And N and I definitely split the work. Actually, he does more than I do. For Thanksgiving, we were assigned to bring pumpkin pie, stuffing/dressing to be baked outside the bird, and a veggie tray. I put together the veggie tray, and N made the dressing and 2 pies from scratch :P. I told SMIL that my goal for the future (when we have a place and host Thanksgiving) is to have N make the entire meal while I sit on the couch with a beer and watch football.
For Christmas, I am in charge of sending out cards to everyone we get a card from (we're lazy and cheating this year), we both decorated and shopped for gifts, and he did all of the gift wrapping. I like our arrangement!
