So, a while back I asked for nest because DH may have to have an echo done to determine if he was going to need heart surgery. Well... he had the echo last Thursday and he is going to have heart surgery...at 24 years old... Right now, I'm just dealing with it and trying to get as prepared as possible. We are looking at him being off of work for a good 90 days or so.
Anyways, point of my post... we are meeting with the surgeron on Wednesday and I want to have a list of questions to ask him. Can you think of any questions to ask when someone is having surgery? I have:
What is doctor going to do? How long will DH be in ICU? How long will DH be in hospital? What should I expect when DH gets out of surgery? What should I expect when DH gets to come home?
Any other questions? Or any nestie dust will be nice because I'm overwhelmed, scared, and DH must be feeling the same thing too because he has been awfully snappy lately.
Re: Surgery Questions help
you are such an amazing wife.. I wish yall tons of strength to make it through this, which you will! A close family friend had open heart surgery earlier this year.. Ill email her and ask if she has any questions she wish she would have asked prior. Its amazing how much medicine has changed over the years, prayers and many blessings for your family.
Best wishes!
I'd also ask what kinds of medicine he should expect to be on (and how long). what will his follow up care be during and after the hospital (dr appointments, any physical therapy, periodic blood work). is there someone in the cardiologists office that can help you with insurance questions (does he need to be preapproved for this surgery, can you still get into an FSA with an employer, etc)?
my DH had to have an emergency bowel resection a few years ago, so i'm happy to help you with any questions.
