Being a PW: am I the only one that doesn't care for manicures?
I had one before my wedding, and wasn't thrilled. I hated the acrylic nails (first time I'd ever had them... and last).
I just got a manicure / pedicure last night, because my hands & feet look awful! Seriously, my skin is so dry that it's just been coming off. Especially my feet. The skin just sort of flakes off in chunks. And no, this is not normal for me. And yes, I'm trying to find ways to avoid going to the derm, because in my head dead skin is a weird reason to see a doctor.
Anyway, I love the pedi, and how cute my toes look. But I really didn't care for the mani this time either. And I just had her put a clear polish on, but she put so many layers of crap on that the nails actually feel as though they're thicker. This is probably how it's supposed to be, but I don't like it. Blech.
And in case you can't tell, I'm bored and this board is dead. LOL.

I love pedicures but seldom get manicures. I play the guitar so I can't do the acrylic unless it's a special occasion. The few times I've had a normal manicure - no matter what they do, the paint chips way too soon. I want it to last at least a few days but it never does.
A year or so ago, I discovered Incoco dry nail polish that you "stick on" your nails. Brilliant. Lasts at least 5 or 6 days and costs less than $10. You can find them online but I usually buy mine at Walgreens.
They make toenail polish too. Obviously it doesn't help with dry or rough skin but if you're seeking color that lasts and doesn't cost too much, this might be a good way to go.
You can also just lather up with Vaseline or some other lotion. Just put whole lot on any use any cotton socks on both your hands and feet.
I have been more of a pedi lady than a mani, lately. I don't know why. It could be that H like to get pedis too, so we go together. If i do get a mani, i don't polish.
I'm not a fan of manicures, mainly because I don't like colored polish on my fingers. It just looks weird to me. I got acrylics for my wedding (like you, first and last time--no matter how good they looked, I hate how they chewed up my real nails underneath).
I've tried clear polishes in the past, but I hate when it flakes off....and once it starts flaking, I like to pick at it, so it never lasts long. Earlier this year I discovered a nail buffer/shiner at Ulta (it's called Texas Two Step) that gives me a nice shine for a day or two (which is what I like about clear polish), and it's quick and easy to re-do it.

I am a self confessed acrylic nail junkie - I have had them for the last say 9 years and I dont plan on turning back. I have the worst nails on the planet. I have small chubby hands and my nails have always been less than stellar. I started getting acrylics and have made friends with them so its more like a social time for me. I love pedi's but they dont always love me. I usually get one every other month in the winter, and then once a month in the summer. I actually am heading there in about an hour and cant wait to relax and enjoy some quiet time before crazy shopping again.
I started getting acrylics since I could never grow my nails and I have such oily nail beds that the polish peels off in less than an hour after application. I usually have a set on for 2-3 mos, take them off for a few weeks and start over. I know dh loves it, and now I use it as the one thing I do for myself on a regular basis. No turning back now
I hate fake nails, not only the way they feel but also the way they look. The look of fake french tips just looks a bit dated to me. I like the look of a manicure on my own nails though and I love love love pedicures!
I also had fake nails put on before the wedding and they were awful! Of course I went to a cheap strip mall place, not a nice salon, so I guess I got what I paid for. It took a good 6 months for my nails to grow out and stop peeling. I like manicures but they do feel thick and yucky if the person isn't experienced. I keep my nails short though so I feel like I'm wasting money if I get a mani. Pedis last a long time so I don't mind them!
I did actually ask my derm for a prescription lotion! I have very dry skin and Keratosis Pilaris on my arms & legs. He gave me a prescription for 6% salicylic acid lotion. It doesn't smell or feel icky. I put it on my nasty cracked feet every night and I swear they're getting better. I think a regular primary or family doc would prescribe it too. Maybe you could ask when you're in for a regular exam or check up.
I'm the same way. Love pedis, hate manis. The last time I tried to do acrylics (for a bridezillas wedding), they put them on so they all angled to the left. When he cut them down to be straight, they were shorter than my nails before he cut them all off (even before I told him not to!!). I made them take them off, and had nasty nails. Bridezilla couldn't hold a candle to me at that point, as heated as I was. I don't even like regular manis. I work with my hands too much to maintain them.
But a pedicure? That's girly gossip time, I love it.

ok.... so i am one of the high maintenance girls on this board! I get my nails & toes done monthly... as well as my hair, eyebrows, chemical peels & massages... gosh i AM high maintenance, aren't i? LOL
I LOVE the way a french manicure looks (i can't stand color on MY hands)... I get pink/white acrylic overlay on my natural nail (no glued on nails). They look very pretty and natural, not to mention they are very durable. I get pedicures monthly.. I love the way they look, but to me its the relaxing experience that makes it all worth it.,
I like getting manicures when my nails are long enough. I always get a non-sparkly color of polish because I think it wears better. I love the way my feet look after a pedicure, but I rarely get one.
I got acrylics for the first and only time for my wedding. My SIL is a nail tech so she did them. I liked the way they looked, but I would not be able to deal with having them long term.
I like french manicures, but I think french pedis look weird.
I'm soo glad I'm not the only one! I LOVE a good pedi, but I could care less about a mani. I have never ever had acrylics, nor do I plan on having them put on. I hate the way nail polish feels on my nails (they just feel heavy to me). So I've had a mani done before, but honestly I've never really enjoyed it.
Now, I do get my eyebrows waxed and hair cut/styled every 2 mos. I also used to highlight my hair every 4 mos, but thanks to our budget woes, it got cut out.
