Bloggers...

I am considering starting a travel blog in the Spring when it's actually condusive to highway travel again. The Mr and I love finding little hidden gems in our province and I figure it would be a good way for us to keep track of where we've been as well as provide information that may be helpful for other people.

So my question is how often do you contribute to your blog. Is it geared mostly towards people who know you or could a stranger read it and know your point of view. What kinds of tips would you like to read about. I was thinking of including how much gas we burned to get from point a to b. If we had to stop to get gas again, where we ate, insteresting stops, photos. We tend to travel on secondary highways so I am hoping that those alternate routes will be of interest of people as well. Any tips you can give a newbie would be appreciated.

Re: Bloggers...

  • Good question - I've been thinking about starting a blog too but can't decide if I want it to be all about me, or us. I enjoy photography, but haven't started a business yet...and DH could really care less.

  • I have a blog, but it's more like a diary for me than something that I share and try to get readers. I contribute every few days, but then again I just started it last month and it may just be the excitement of something new.

But I say photos, photos, PHOTOS!! I read cooking, travel, fashion,  decorating, and random blogs and photos are definitely the most interesting and important part to me.

I think interesting stops and where you ate with lots of photos would be good for readers. Maybe you could do a playlist feature too, like some songs you listened to on the way that got you in the mood for that particular place you were going.

I think the gas idea is cute, but unnecessary- chances are people aren't coming from the exact same place as you and different cars get different mileage. If you say "this trip took 3 hours and was 150 miles" people will know how much gas they need.

  • I keep a blog of all my projects, but it's more for close friends who have either moved away or I just don't see very often.  I have little interest/hope in expanding readership to strangers.

I update it probably once or twice a month or when I have a finished object to show.  I'm much too lazy to take progress pictures and I agree with pp, I don't want to update without new pictures.

  • I keep a blog. :)  I update it maybe 2-3 times a week and gear it towards everyone.  Your travel blog would be very interesting!  I love watching the travel channel and the food network and love when they talk about "this diner hasd the best triple cheeseburger" or "we found this awesome chair at this antique shop" or "this hotel was amazing" and give as many details you can as far as names and locations.  Also if you post pictures with your blog it would be cool because you feel like you are there, can actually see the cheeseburger or the really cool buy or the view of the mountains where you pulled over near this mile marker.  I would follow your blog! :)
  • I just started a blog... so far I haven't told anyone I have it except for DH (and now all of you!).  I'd have no problem with others reading it, but I'm too lazy to do anything else with it at this point.  http://mnsheartsongs.blogspot.com/

I love your ideas for a travel blog.  I think I agree about not including gas info though. Good luck!

  • Thanks guys your feedback has been very helpful and I'm going to do it!!!! Like I said in my lead post, as soon as the roads are better and we get to get out on the highway :)

I'll post info here for everyone so they can check it out :)
