Mat. Leave Auto Reply Email - Help!

I'm trying to set up my auto reply before my last day (Dec. 31st). I started writing it, but it sounds so goofy. Basically, it was "I am on maternity leave I will return on ??? Please contact so&so for any assistance"

I want something more professional and my brain is mush!

Any Help?

TIA!

  • "I will be on maternity leave until ??? If you require assistance please contact so&so."

I don't see what's unprofessional about what you had though.

  • Mine says

Hello. I am currently on maternity leave, returning January 2010. Please contact Ian Murphy at iamurphy@domain.ca (519-555-5555) for assistance.

  • Thanks Ladies...I guess for some reason I expected it to sound differently?? LOL I don't know!

Mushy brain is still here though Wink

  • Ok, maybe I am in the minority here, but when I receive an automated response about someone being on mat leave I think it's odd. Truly, I am not interested in why they're away, just in who I can work with while they're away. IMO it should simply state that you are on a leave and expect to return on _____, and a contact person in your absence.
  • I think what you have is fine, ditto Pam's suggestion. I think it's fine to say maternity leave if you want to specify.

I think people specify it is a mat leave because of the length of the leave being so long.  It isn't necessary to specify.

  • I always say why I am in my out of office. At a conference, on vacation, mat leave etc. It lets people know how long I will be away and if they should wait until I return or if if it more urgent who they can contact to get assistance.
