Share your: holiday tradition

I'm soooo bored at work today! So, share your holiday traditions with me!

Mine is every year my Mom, stepdad, sister and I have our Christmas on Christmas eve so we can share some quiet family time with each other before the extended family invades.

Also- DH and stepdad always drink Sambuca on Christmas Eve, they call each other Sambuca buddies... and my mom and I make fun of them.

Re: Share your: holiday tradition

  • My favorite tradition is my stepmom's family's progressive dinner (most of her family lives really close to each other, one year we even did a hayride between houses, they're really country people, haha).

Oh, and my mom always makes those canned cinnamon rolls on Christmas morning.. I'll continue that one this year.

  • My (maternal) grandmother always hosts Christmas Eve. We have Chinese food and open any presents from relative we won't see on Christmas Day.

It doesn't sound exciting but I can't imagine spending Christmas Eve any other way.

  • Crys my mom always made pillsbury cinnamon rolls too, so we have kept the tradition since we've been in our own home :-) We do that for Thanksgiving and Easter too!

  • I forgot about this one this year, until we unwittingly continued it- we *always* have pizza on decorate-the-tree night, which is nearly the only time my parents and I get pizza all year. That used to be the night I returned home from school, and my mom would call up and get a pizza, and they'd deliver while we were putting the ornaments on, and we'd continue decorating and take a bite of pizza every so often. This year, DH and I bought the tree, had a fiasco when we realized the christmas tree stand didn't move to the new house with us, and I made pizza while DH went in search of a new stand- and then we ate the leftover pizza the next night when we put the ornaments on.

Christmas Day everyone in my family comes to my parents' house for a formal dinner, and we watch "A Christmas Story" while my cousins and uncle and I throw wrapping paper wads at each other and Grandma complains about what a terrible movie we're watching. Ah, family. :)

My favorite tradition used to be when we cooked the roast beef in a portable oven in the basement, and one of my cats, who was terrified of other people and would hide all evening in the basement, would then smell like roast beef for at least a couple days. It sounds weird, but he smelled really good! My current cat is a little social butterfly, so no chance of her carrying on that tradition.

  • Christmas night after we leave my parents house, H and I drive around to check out all the Christmas lights in the town/neighboring towns.
