Those of you that are book worms...

Help me pick my next book....I've already read all the Twilight books (loved them ) and am looking for a new book to read after the Holidays.  Any suggestions would be helpful as I havent had much time to do alot of browsing to see whats out there that I like.  TIA!

Re: Those of you that are book worms...

  • If you like vampires and werewolves, try the Anita Blake series by Laura K. Hamilton - she's up to book 18 now, so it's a series that will take  awhile to work through!  The first book is Guilty Pleasures.  I've read the first True Blood book, and that was pretty entertaining but haven't gotten to the rest of the series yet.

If you like mysteries, I've also been reading the James Patterson Women's Murder Club books (helpfully named 1st To Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree, etc.)

  • Jodi Picoult books are always my favorite.  I just finished her newest (and really enjoyed it until the ending) so I'm looking for my next book, too.  I'll be watching this thread!
  • The obvious (if you haven't read them): the Harry Potter series, Chronicles of Narnia, and Lord of the Rings series are a MUST

I thought the Uglies/Pretties/Specials series by Scott Westerfeld was pretty interesting.  I didn't read the fourth book (Extras) since it's not really related.

Laurie Notaro books are a riot.  The two best are "The Idiot Girls Action-Adventure Club" and "Autobiography of a Fat Bride."  I laughed my a$$ off.

The Time Travelers Wife is amazing.  I didn't see the movie, but I LOOOOOOOVE that book.

    Stick Figure

    Speak

    Lovely Bones

One for the Money, by Janet Evanovich (and the rest of that series - there's a bunch)

Ender's Game (my sister recommended this book to me and I have a love/hate relationship with it.  I can't really explain why.  You just have to read it.)

    There's more, but I'm drawing a blank.

    Happy reading!

I agree with having to read the series you recommend, and also have a Love/Hate feeling about Ender's Game- funny.

If you're looking for a good friendship saga- I'd recommend Firefly Lane, or if you're looking for a fun easy read- you HAVE to read the Princess Bride as a book- even better than the movie (if you can imagine such.) A good lighthearted mystery is The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (an 11 year old aspiring chemist is on the job- really fun read.) I've been meaning to read Everything Matters! because everyone I know who's read it has RAVED.

  • I'm currently reading the Southern Vampire series/Sookie Stackhouse (the books that True Blood is based on), by Charlaine Harris.  It's full of vampires, werewolves, werepanthers, other shape shifters, mind readers, etc...

I'm on book # 5 and # 10 came out this year. They are easy reads.

  • I've just regained my desire to read after a 6 year hiatus.  Here is what I've read recently and really liked:

    The Kite Runner

A Thousand Splendid Suns (same author as the Kite Runner, but entirely different story line.)

    The Help

Time Traveler's Wife (currently reading and it's really good so far)

    Lovely Bones

Up in the Air (this is the new George Clooney movie, although from the previews it looks a little different)

    Water for Elephants

    Eat, Pray, Love

    My life in France

If you're looking for funny reads, I recommend Jen Lancaster books--Bitter is the new black, Pretty in Plaid, etc. and I was told there'd be cake by Sloane Crosley.
