Hi! I am over at my parents nestie and my mom is an interior designer. I was trying to explain briefly that you were doing a kitchen remodel and showed her your pictures and kitchen layout. She said to def get samples of the granite to see how it looks under your lights. Plus she said if you go dark on dark it will make your kitchen look smaller. Not sure of the size, but thought I would let you know. Plus she said dark on dark really doesnt give any contrast. Thought I would share. Her and I both have done our kitchens this year (she actually is doing countertops in the next few weeks).
My cabinets are white/cream with Saint Cecilia granite tops in kitchen. Bathrooms are different (1 dark and 1 white in each). Her kitchen cabinents are cherry with Baltic Brown tops. Bathrooms match. So she is not prone to always give the same advice like other designers.
Although she does like kitchen counters to match bathroom ( I dont!) lol
Re: **PugRolls** re:kitchen
Hi Aims! Thanks so much for your advice here and below. Those are all great thoughts!
Our kitchen is small by suburban standards, but pretty average for our little home in Seattle proper -- the L shape along the wall is 12' by 12' with a 6' by 4' island in the middle. (But it is part of a larger family room because we knocked down the walls separating the kitchen from the family room. Overall, the entire space is about 600 square feet or so).
I would LOVE to have white cabinets, but MH is dead set against them, for whatever reason. I think showing him the inspirational photos has gone a long way to convincing him that we should NOT do a dark/dark combination. He now sees what I mean about a "cave kitchen" and even seems to be coming around to the idea of the whitish granite, or at least a light gray counter top with espresso cabinets.
The granite place did give us a sample to take home, and it does indeed look different, but I still like it. In fact, taking the sample home is what is helping MH come around to it -- you can really see the splotches of tan and gray and drops of burgundy (which I argue will help hide any stains) -- from a distance it looks white/light gray overall. That place does let you pick out your own slabs, which we definitely will do.
It is called White Treasure or Hampshire Fall, depending on where you get it. Is that the one you looked at?
