BR: Major score!

So after hearing about Malia finding awesome deals at consignment/used baby item stores, I started looking for one here in Vegas.  I found a couple and yesterday we decided to check one out.  Good thing we did because it turns out they are going out of business (today is their last day) and everything was 50% off!  I didn't find any cool carriers or slings, which I had hoped for, but we got a bunch of clothes, from newborn to 2T...31 items for $67!  The most expensive thing we bought was $2.99!  I know people always give you a lot of clothes, but I just couldn't pass up such a deal.  Big Smile

Re: BR: Major score!

  • That IS a fantastic score! Go you!

  • Awesome! Glad to have inspired you! :-)

Btw, Coleen is back in Vegas for the holidays. Have you met her little baby Drew? He is the cutest! Our mom's group is getting together at her condo the first week in January. :-)

  • that's awesome. we didn't buy any of A's clothes new, either...got everything for a few bucks on consignment, like you did :) and when they are so small they outgrow everything so fast, it's basically like buying new! just don't get a lot of things in the 0-3 mos size, you'll get a ton of that stuff from everyone else
  • Yay! I love those stores! I don't think I've bought anything new yet for our LO :-)
  • Wow! Great score!!!

I really wish we had a consignment store around here...I'll probably end up ebay-ing a lot of stuff like clothes, but it's nice to be able to see things in person, you know?

Lisa you should open a cosignment store down there. You can't be the only one wishing you had this! Either that or put up a flyer at your work saying that you are interested in buying used baby items. Probably lots of women have lots of baby stuff at home that they think they are stuck with & don't realize they could be makin a little $.

  • Wow, that's amazing, especially BEFORE Christmas. Can't believe you got so much stuff for so cheap!

If I wanted to run a business, this would actually be a GREAT idea for here!

I'd post a flyer at work, but although I work with 99% women, the vast majority of them are a lot older than I am and either have children in their late teens or who are already grown and gone...so I'm guessing the only baby clothes/items they have left are the ones that are heirlooms. Sad

  • That is awesome!!  I keep telling myself that we need to find out where the consignment stores are here in HI.  I would really like to just see what they have for household goods.  There used to be one near my house for kids that had everything from infant necessities (clothes, cribs, strollers) to school age clothes.  Then it moved.  Not sure where it went. It was called Caterpillar Kids.

They posted about a gtg with a couple of our classmates last Friday but I had to work.  =(  She messaged a bunch of us but it sounded like she was only here until Sunday?  So, no, I didn't get to see her or meet Drew.  He is cute!  A little bf for Alexa, huh?  Haha.

Really?  I thought I read someone here didn't get any newborn stuff so everything was too big.  Usually I buy 3-6 months when I buy baby gifts, but I guess maybe not everyone does.  We'll see I guess!

DH says no bfs for Alexa until she's 30 or married! LOL!

We got only a couple newborn things, majority of gifts were 3-6 months. So I've had to buy some small stuff, mostly long sleeve onesies and hats that fit her! Also, keep in mind that she's 3.5 months but still not in her 3-6 month clothes, and most of those are sleepers or over the to outfits. Not so much basics. The footed sleepers are the best, we use one a night. But she outgrows those the fastest!

it's so funny how it's different for everyone.  some people (who know more about babies) got us the larger sizes, knowing we'd get a lot of smaller stuff...but we still got a lot of 0-3 mos stuff and a few nb items (even though I had my mom spread the word that we didn't need clothes b/c I stocked up at the consignment sales!!).  I really didn't expect much b/c all my family and friends are far away but (a) I ended up having a surprise shower at work and (b) lots of people sent gifts w/our parents when they came to visit us :)

and what you like to put on your baby will vary - I see Malia loves the footed sleepers but we hardly ever use them b/c they're such a pain to use w/diaper changes b/c she cries when we change her diaper so we like to get through them as quickly as possible (she goes through 20-24 diapers in a day!)... we often have her in just a t-shirt and diaper (though we use cloth diapers) or a onesie and diaper.

We bought a few of those sleeper sacks that zip up b/c I figure those will be the easiest for diaper changes at night.  But I also bought a few footed sleepers, too, just because they're so cute.  I just know that the buttons are a pain in the butt and the zippers will be easier for me.

That IS really funny but so true that everyone has different preferances... For example, I think sleep sacks for a baby younger than 3-6 months is a total waste because I'd rather use the Miracle Blanket instead!

And about diaper changes... I use the footed sleepers for the night. Most books say that unless it's #2 or they leak, you don't need to change them at night. Of course they might get more wet in a cloth diaper... Have you thought about using disposables JUST for overnight?

But then Alexa doesn't mind diaper changes, I think she likes them. She can be fussy but as soon as I put her down on the changing table and take her pants off she starts to smile and coo.
