My family is celebrating Christmas on the 26th this year, because my one sister won't be home until Saturday, so we've decided to do a small party tomorrow night at my house. I just realized that I have NO food, and need to come up with some appetizer ideas quickly so I can have DH run to the store today (he has off). Everyone loves pigs in blankets, so we're definitely doing that, but any other ideas?
Re: Good appetizer recipes?
Shrimp cocktail is easy. And Wegmans has those entertainment collection frozen apps that are pretty good too. Everyone always likes bread bowl/dill dip, which is simple.
Sorry I don't have any easy recipes... we are having a last minute dinner tonight at our house, so the above items are what I'm serving for apps!!
Le Petit Pierogi, My Food Blog
TTC for 1.5 years due to PCOS - we are now blessed with twin girls from the help of IUI & Injects!
Easy and yummy faves of mine are:
Chicken wing dip
Bruschetta (if your Wegs has the olive bar, you can buy it from there and use their baguette bread)
Baked Brie- either plain or with the pecan cranberry topping from Wegs
A friend of mine made these sausage roll things at work and they were so good- uses crescent rolls-

Cheese / meat and crackers tray
Veggie tray
buffalo chicken wing dip
If you belong to BJ's or Sam's, they always have great apps in the freezer section you can just pop in the oven. We love the TGIF fried green beans that you can buy there.
I make one of the 2 usually and both are a hit!
Spinach and Artichoke Dip
2/3 cup of sour cream and mayo
package of frozen chopped spinach
can of artichoke hearts (drained, stems cut off and artichokes cut up)
cup of grated parm. cheese
Mix in small crock pot...heat for about an hour...serve with Scoops or veggies.
Green Chilis Cheese Dip
Combine 8 oz.of shredded sharp cheddar, 8 oz. of shredded mozz. cheese, 2 cans of green chilis (not drained), 1 cup of mayo...bake for about 30-35 minutes on 350...serve with the triagle triscuits.
Both are easy, cheap and yummy!
Here's a few of my easy, fast, favorites.
Hot Mexi Dip (10 mins prep):
Heat 2 cans of refried beans with 1/2 can salsa
While they warm up, make 2 lbs. of taco meat and add other 1/2 can salsa.
Shred a brick of Pepper-Jack cheese.
Layer beans, meat, and cheese 3 times in greased 2.5 qt. dish. Heat in Microwave 10 mins, or 325 oven for 25-30 mins. Serve with scoops.
Norman Cheese and Crackers (2 mins prep): (So Easy & good- creamy, spicy, crispy and salty)
Mix a jar of apricot preserves with 2 Tbs.(or more to taste) Horseradish
Pour over softened brick of Neufchatel (traditional) or Cream Cheese and serve with crackers. ( I like the American Neufchatel that is sold as "1/3 the fat of Cream Cheese" right alongside the CC- rather than the kind from Normandy- which is stronger in taste.
Garbage Bread (5 mins prep TOPS):
Get pre-made pizza dough (NOT pizza shells) at the store (or make your own)
Let Dough Rise & Roll it out into a rectangle.
Top with whatever you have on hand- ham, pepperoni, veggies, and various cheeses, whatever (it's GARBAGE bread for a reason)
Roll into log shape and pinch edges tight so ingredients do not ooze out.
Brush egg yolk on top and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 45 minutes. (Don't grease cookie sheet because it will burn.)
Slice into 1" slices and if desired serve with Marinara or Pizza sauce.
