RP: Baby won't eat :-(

We've been trying to give DD solids for the last 4 weeks with no success.  The only way we can get her to open her mouth and swallow it is by pushing her cheeks together to get her mouth to open.  Then once we've gotten it into her mouth, she starts gagging like crazy and spits it out.  We've even tried about 10 different foods thinking that maybe she just didn't like a certain food but that hasn't helped at all. When DS started soilids we never had any problems with him eating so now we are at a loss.

Has anyone else gone through this with their LO?   I'm hoping that someone here has suggestions on how to get a baby to eat solids?

TIA

Re: RP: Baby won't eat :-(

  • What are you trying to feed her?  We started her on cereal and when we did it was really really runny just a little thicker than the formula.   She took a little while to get the hang of it and I gradually started making it thicker.

  • We started with cereal and then moved onto vegetables( sweet potato) and now fruit ( applesauce, peach, etc).  She hates and gags on them all.
  • Some little ones are just late eaters, we made everything for RJ and I think that did a world of good for us, he did not like any store bought foods at all, even applesauce.  Maybe just take a little break and try again in a few weeks, she just might not be ready for solids yet.

  • Aw, sorry Betty... If it's any consolation, DD wasn't so into eating at first too. She gagged on most as well. I made all my own food and had to truly water it down *big time* for her to tolerate it.

Keep giving it a try now and again. Maybe even take a few days off and try again. Just don't make it a struggle or she really won't like eating time. I know it gets frustrating - totally been there!
