PSA: Chase Bank

Just wanted to warn any of you who bank with Chase.  I got an email this morning from Chase saying that I had a new message in my accounts inbox on their website, it included a link to log in.  I was suspicious of the email (I've been hearing a lot of stolen credit card stories) and decided to log in securily on my own...not using the link provided.  Sure enough, it showed no new messages.  When I went to report the suspicious email with Chase I saw a listing of fraudulant emails that they have on their site and there was the exact email that I recieved!

Don't follow any of the links directly! Had I done that someone would've had access to my whole account, password and all!  Boy am I glad I was on top of my game this morning Smile  I hope this helps at least one person!

 Merry Christmas everyone!

Re: PSA: Chase Bank

  • Thanks for posting - we've been with Chase for a while. DH got the same e-mail.

Wells Fargo also had a pretty convincing e-mail going around that led you to their website... except it wasn't their website ... it was a very good copy of their website that had no working links.  Just clicking on the web link was enough to get you.

  • I just got something similar from Progressive.  I got 3 calls in 1 day from the same 1-866 number.  The third time, they left a voicemail.  It was an automated voice telling me (well, actually telling my husband) to call a certain number with a message code to get some important information about the policy.

I was suspicious, of course, so I logged onto our policy online and sent customer service an e-mail about it.  They responded within a few hours saying that we're paid in full (which I knew) and there was nothing wrong with anything.  They said their fraud department or something would look into it.  It bothered me because they used DH's name specifically and he was JUST added to the policy last month.  Ugh... people should stop trying to screw other people around. :(
