Recommend your Vacuum please!

So our 3 vacuums decided to break all within a week of each other. We have Christmas tree needles everywhere and a house full of crumbs and crap. I am a vacuuming fiend and it's driving me crazy.

could you please recommend a vacuum that has great suction and lasts more than 1 year (do they even make them like that anymore?)

Re: Recommend your Vacuum please!

  • I love my Dyson but they are on the pricier side.  You might be able to get a good after-Christmas deal and I know you can use the Bed Bath and Beyond coupons on them if you go there (that is where I went for mine).  They have several different ones so you don't have to get the really expensive one.  I've had mine for over a year and we use it at least once a week, if not more.

  • I have a Dyson too and I love it.  We got it as a house warming present when we moved in five years ago and it is still going strong (and we abuse it!).

  • We love our Dyson, too.  Picks up pet hair, dirt, pine needles, everything.  And I think it's engineered really well, too.  All of the tools fit on the vacuum and it's really easy to use the hose to vacuum the couch or corners.  I think we've had ours for about three years now, maybe four?  We've had no complaints!

  • I have a Dyson Animal, and it's amazing on our plush carpet.  Ours croaks on the one room with berber carpet, though, and I have to take it apart constantly.  Something must be wrong with it.  There's some bearing that gets dog hair wrapped around it, and it starts making the most awful noise.  Considering that it's marketed for pet hair, and we have one dog, you'd think it could do better!  (It started this when it was 6 months old.)  It's now 1.5 year old, though, and it performs great on plush carpet.
  • Actually currently, my dyson is out of order, but the vaccumm that is still kicking is my little Eureka Optima (its green and only weighs like 10lbs).. it was only $60. I bought it probably 3 years ago now, and while it hasn't been our ONLY vacuum all this time, we used it primarily for quite awhile.. I'm a huge fan of it.

  • I had a pricey bagless hoover and it worked great for about 2 years. Then it stopped sucking decently even though I changed belts and filters.

After a lot of research, I ended up getting  - Hoover U5140-900 Tempo Widepath Bagged Upright Vacuum ($76 on Amazon).

It has bags, which I LOVE. Way less messy than the bagless. I'm not out in the yard sucking crap into my lungs while I'm trying to bang out the dang filter, which never truely comes clean anyway. Who invented bagless filters system anyway? They're idiots. Anyway, it's also cheap, which I loved. And it still works AMAZINGLY. The one drawback is that it has a short extension hose which can be a pain sometimes. I think you can buy a longer hose.

I decided I would try it because it was so cheap and if  I hated it after a year, I would buy a more expensive Dyson or Eureka. I ended up loving it so much that even it it does quit after 3-4 years, I'll buy a new one and spend less than my old POS bagless Hoover. I think I've owned it for a little less than a year now. Still sucks. Literally, not figuratively.

  • I <3 my Dyson Animal.

It takes care of all the puppy fur...and I swear to god, the first time I used it my 'clean' light blue carpet was brightened to a whole new shade of light blue....it sucked dirt out that I didn't know was even there.

It's pricey but I will never buy another type of vacuum again!!

  • I have gone through many vaccuums.  If I ever have extra $ I am buying a dyson.  I know they have refurbished ones on woot every so often.  We had the bissell lift off.  That did ok now we have a hoover and it's ok. We also have a central vac system which is about the biggest waste of $.
  • We have a Dyson and I absolutely LOVE it! I would recommend nothing else to anyone! Even the one that isn't specially designed to pick up dog/cat/other animal's fur and dust mites does an especially amazing job. You will be shocked at how much "crud" you vacuum off your carpets the first couple of times you use the Dyson too. I couldn't believe how much "crud" my old vacuum was leaving behind! Good luck!
  • We too have a Dyson....the "Animal" and love it. We've had it now for almost 5 years I think, but still works great! No complaints!
