parent and grandparent albums
Ok...so I am not the most technically savvy person in the world, and I'll admit that the 1200 photos we have on discs from the photographer overwhelm me. I do not know where or how to start.
I want to get albums that lay open flat. I don't care whether the covers are leather as long as they are durable and attractive. I need a site that is idiotproof. I'm not sure how to narrow the huge numbers of photos down. For instance, I'm pretty sure grandparents aren't interested in a lot of the getting ready and party dancing shots...yes? no?
Can you help? Any thoughts, hints, or assistanc in this process would be most welcome. Thanks in advance for your time and care!

I made my parent albums at shutterfly. It's very self-explanatory.
As far as weeding through pics, you still have to do that. I did the "traditional" shots.
I used Picaboo for our guestbook (photo book of our e-pics) and I thought it turned out great. The lay-flat books you're thinking of are pretty expensive though.
We got 2 albums from our photog with our package and I didn't really love them so we gave those 2 to our parents for Christmas.
I'm going to work on making one of our own soon. I'll probably get the lay-flat kind from Picaboo. I've also heard good things about mpix.com.
Shutterfly and yahoo books are super easy to use and turn out great, I just thought my Picaboo book was a better quality. They had more layouts and backgrounds too. The price is higher though, so it may depend on your budget.
I also reccomend mypublisher. We made 2 albums one for my parents & grandmother and his. We used the coupon for a free photobook (twice) and got 4 photo books for like $60. They were a huge, huge it!
As for photos to put in it I did getting ready shots that included the girls helping me get dressed, my mom and I then walking down the isle etc. Basically photos from the day's time line as it happened. Then on the last page I did a collage of all the guest table shots from my side of the family that our photographer took.

The only places that I found online that will do the "lay flat" books are Picaboo or Mpix. Picaboo does offer templates, but Mpix does not. They are expensive, more than $150.
Since our photographer ran a special on doing this type of book, he is making ours. For our parents, I made the standard book on Picaboo. I ended up spending about $70 each with the extra pages I added (keep that in mind because you most likely won't fit the whole day in the 20 pages they include in the prices.) I was really happy with how they came out though!
I do like My Publisher as well... they're not the best quality, but they're definitely good enough (I've used them several times).
I was asking about your budget because I do have access to a printing company that makes the really nice albums with the heavy pages and I really enjoy designing albums. In looking at pricing, I probably couldn't do one for less than $150 because the softbound books are $120-$180 without a design fee. BUT, in looking at pricing, if your photographer is doing 20 designed pages (not just one photo per page), that's a good deal and may be worth the extra $ if you want a higher quality book.

I don't know about the 3rd party companies - we're doing it through our photog. Our parent albums are copies of albums.
That being said, are you open to having your parents choose pictures with you? We asked for my parents to go through the pics and choose their favorites. We'll then incorporate SOME of those into the album.
