What are you reading?

I just finished The Road for a book club. It was ok. Depressing and one of my fears (end of the world type stuff), but it kept me reading.

I'm in the middle of The Murder of King Tut. It's also just ok. It bounces from present to ancient Egypt and I'd rather it stuck with just ancient Egypt.

And finally, I started The Double Bind for another book club. So far it's pretty good.

Re: What are you reading?

  • I'm reading the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown. It's difficult to get into it. I love all of his books, but am struggling with this one. Not as good as his others!
  • I just finished Lost by Gregory Maguire (the author who wrote Wicked)- I liked it but I think I like his "fairy tale" books better (Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Mirror Mirror). Now I'm reading The Historian; it's a good story but I don't really like the style of writing. I'm trying to finish it before we leave for our trip so I can bring Animal Vegetable Miracle with me to read on our cruise!
  • I'm reading The History of Love by Nicole Krauss. So far, it's a really good story, but I think I'm still a little confused as to who is who. I'm hoping I figure it out soon...the writing is really good though!

  • I'm reading An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon. It's the most recent in a long series, most commonly known as the Outlander series. I am loving it so far, I can't wait to get home tonight to keep reading!

  • Jcam- yay for Jamie and Claire!! You have to tell me when you finish it. I looooved it, of course haha.

I am currently not reading anything specific, I so wish I was. All of my normal reading time has been somewhat consumed by reading parenting/baby stuff.

I will! I can't believe I put it off for this long (I preordered it, so I have had it since it came out lol). I think what really killed me was I was re-reading the others first, and I finished that right when I got pregnant, then I was passing out at 7 every night. So no reading time haha.

And why have you been reading parenting/baby stuff???

I totally understand. I read it the first week or so that it came out. I tried to reread the series but I knew I didn't have time so I only reread the last one. You're going to love it! And it's not going to be the last one either, she gave that away in an interview a little while back. I already can't wait for the next one!

As for my current reading material- J and I are trying ;-)

Ya from what I have heard, she plans to go until 1800. So hopefully at least two more!

Yay for you guys! GL, I hope you have an easy TTC journey :-)

  • I'm in the middle of two books, Boston Noir, DH gave it to me for Christmas, its about 10 short stories set in different Boston neighborhoods, and most have been pretty good so far.

I've been working my way through The Echo Maker by Richard Powers too, its a very intricate narrative, but I've enjoyed it.

I've thought about trying the Outlander series (since everyone RAVES about it on the NBC), but just don't know if its my thing, although it seems addictive.

It's definitely very addictive! And I know it seems like a weird concept, but there is a reason everyone raves about them. Some people love them for one aspect, some for another, but really these books have something for everyone. The only reason I have ever heard for people not being crazy about them was that they had a hard time getting into Outlander, because it starts out slow for some.

  • My mom and my aunt LOVE the Outlander series. I might have to read them myself.

Right now I'm reading I, Alex Cross by James Patterson. (Christmas present from DH) I love reading his murder mystery novels. I have the first 5 in the Women's Murder Club and a few of his Alex Cross books. The chapters are short so it's wicked easy to get through and very much a page turner.

  • "Shantaram" is fantastic... the best book I've ever read. I started re-reading it a week or so ago, but my husband is a librarian and brought home a book I've been waiting for, so it's on hold until I finish it. It's called "The China Study" (nonfiction, and definitely not everybody's cup of tea, but since I'm in the process of going vegetarian and possibly vegan, it's right up my alley.) I have "The Book Thief" sitting in my queue as well. My stepmom and my father both adored this book and gave it to me as part of my Christmas gift since they got tired of me waiting on my turn to get it through the library.

I also read "The Help" recently and LOVED it.
