Mold update

After a week of little response from my rental company, I sent an email to the property manager advising that if the situation wasn't remedied our next step would to be file a complaint with the Department of Public Health. She called me a few hours later to make sure DH or I would be there when Maintenance came.

He came around 5pm and used Clorox cleaner to get rid of the mold areas. He probably thought I was a neurotic idiot for not handling it on my own, but oh well. After all the research I did on toxic mold, I wasn't taking chances.

Re: Mold update

  • I'm glad they did something about it but I would definitely keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn't return.

  • Definitely. Maintenance guy left me a bucket, sponge, Clorox, and gloves. I still have more work to do in the bathroom and windows, but that huge area in my living room ceiling is 100% gone!! I feel so much better now.

  • Go Bleach, Go bleach!! glad you feel better about it now...still skeevie, I agree!
  • I don't know much about mold, but I just wanted to throw this out there -

Did your maintenance person try to find the source of the mold? Do you think it's a possibility that it could be coming from the person above/below you?  Is it possible that it could be all on the other side of the drywall?

I saw the pictures that you posted, and in regards to you and your hubs having respiratory problems, it makes me think that your situation may be worse then what is visible to the eye.

  • The bathroom mold was easy to figure out -- there's no fan or ventilation in any of the bathrooms. But the living room and bedroom we didn't really pinpoint. I asked if it could be a bigger problem, but I didn't get any answers. Since the surface areas were cleaned up pretty easily with the bleach, I'm going to not worry at the moment. I'll definitely keep an eye out though.

I checked with our downstairs neighbors and they don't have any mold. We're on the second floor of a two-story building.
